Clearly, loads of Prime Video subscribers have been returning to their festive favorites in recent weeks, as Ron Howard's "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" continues to be one of the most-streamed movies on the platform.

While I'm sure most people know the story already, this Christmas classic sees Jim Carrey embodying Dr. Seuss' iconic green grouch to life in live-action. In this holiday caper, the Grinch descends from his Mount Crumpit home to ruin Christmas in order to get his revenge on the cheery residents of Whoville... but one youngster, Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen) suspects the Grinch might not be the miser that he appears to be.

'Merv'

Look, maybe I'm just susceptible to seeing a sweet pup steal the limelight, but I was genuinely surprised at the reception Prime Video's newest original holiday movie, "Merv," earned from critics. It's by no means going to trouble my top 10 list of movies from 2025, but it's a sweet enough rom-com that makes for perfect easy viewing for the season.

"Merv" revolves around Anna (Zooey Deschanel) and Russ (Charlie Cox), a couple who recently went their separate ways. And that split's taken a real toll on poor old Merv. To try and get their shared pup out of his funk, Russ whisks him away on a boys' trip to a doggy beach in Florida — a boys' trip that Anna crashes unexpectedly. As the trio spend time together, and Merv starts to emerge from his shell again, there are hints that, maybe, Anna and Russ' spark could reignite...

If you're looking to dodge the Christmas films on your next movie night, and you somehow dodged the phenomenon that was "Wicked" last year, then Jon M. Chu's movie musical adaptation is the pick for you.

This first (and arguably superior) movie in the two-part saga brings the legendary stage musical to life in wonderful fashion. Taking us back to the Land of Oz, "Wicked" takes us back before Dorothy set foot on the yellow brick road to explore the early days of the would-be Wicked Witch, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo). She ends up enrolled at Shiz University and rooming with popular roommate, Galinda (Ariana Grande). It boasts powerhouse performances from both leads (and Jonathan Bailey!) plus plenty of movie magic besides: it's a real musical treat.
