New on Netflix this week: Top picks
'The Lincoln Lawyer' season 4
Genre: Legal drama series
What it's about: "The Lincoln Lawyer" stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, the premier defense attorney in Los Angeles. His calling card, aside from winning, is working out of his chauffeured Lincoln Navigator, hence the name. But for all his talent, season 3 ended with a body in Mickey's trunk, and now, he has to defend himself if he wants to stay out of prison.
Why you should watch it: This legal drama was created by the legendary television writer David E. Kelley, who has used his expertise as a former attorney to craft some of the best legal shows ever made, including this one.
Watch "The Lincoln Lawyer" season 4 on Netflix starting Feb. 5
'Is It Cake? Valentines'
Genre: Reality baking competition show
Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
What it's about: This baking competition show is about a simple premise: Is the object you're looking at real? Or is it cake? Fool the judges, and you win. In this Valentine's Day special, three baking couples of master cake artists face off for the top prize.
Why you should watch it: The cakes these master bakers can make are truly impressive. But the main reason to watch this special edition of "Is It Cake?" is the new games and challenges, including some games that are just for the viewers.
Watch "Is It Cake? Valentines" on Netflix starting Feb. 4
'Mo Gilligan: In The Moment'
Genre: Stand-up comedy special
What it's about: "In the Moment" is Mo Gilligan's third Netflix hour-long special. In this one, he shares what it's like to be a Londoner in Hollywood, being famous, his family and more.
Why you should watch it: If you like Gilligan's brand of observational humor, then this is a must-watch special. But even if you've never watched the British stand-up before, everyone needs a good laugh.
Watch "Mo Gilligan: In the Moment" on Netflix starting Feb. 3
'Queen of Chess'
Genre: Sports documentary
What it's about: This new sports doc focuses on Judit Polgár, the greatest female chess player of all time. It chronicles her rise as a child prodigy and her decades-long career as one of the best to ever play.
Why you should watch it: During her career, Polgár became the youngest FIDE top 100 player, the youngest Grandmaster and defeated eleven current or former world champions in either rapid or classical chess. Forget "The Queen's Gambit" — this is the real thing.
Watch "Queen of Chess" on Netflix starting Feb. 6
'Cash Queens'
Genre: French drama series
What it's about: Known as "Les Lionnes" in its native French, this crime drama focuses on a band of five women who rob a bank disguised as men. The police and others are hunting them, but nobody suspects this mercenary band could be a group of seemingly ordinary women.
Why you should watch it: Based on the trailer, this seems like a fun heist show. So if that's your cup of tea, then this show should be an enjoyable binge-watch.
Watch "Cash Queens" on Netflix starting Feb. 5
'Unfamiliar'
Genre: German spy thriller series
What it's about: Ex-spies Simon and Meret have started a family and run a safe house. They think they're out of the game for good. But one day, they find they're burned, and everyone from assassins to Russian agents, the BND, and former lovers are hunting them.
Why you should watch it: Can't wait for "The Night Agent" season 3 to get your spy thriller fix? You don't need to. Just hit play on "Unfamiliar" and sit back. Just make sure you're paying attention to those subtitles.
Watch "Unfamiliar" on Netflix starting Feb. 5
'Salvador'
Genre: Spanish action series
What it's about: Luis Tosar stars as Salvador Aguirre, an ambulance driver in a Spanish city. One night, he arrives on the scene of a brawl between football ultras, and to his horror, finds his daughter's broken body among the casualties. Now, he's trying to find out how she ended up with a neo-Nazi group, and if he doesn't get answers, he might just get vengeance.
Why you should watch it: As someone who is deeply invested in football (soccer for us Americans), I find the choice to examine the very real complexities of ultra groups fascinating. But even if this show doesn't fully dive into fascism in football and the dark side of hooliganism, it seems set to be a pretty compelling action drama.
Watch "Salvador" on Netflix starting Feb. 6
