5. 'Mutiny' (Episode 6, 'Survivor: Cook Islands')

What happened: This episode covers Days 19-21 of "Survivor: Cook Islands." On Day 19, Jonathan and Candice formed a secret alliance, and on the next day, they flipped on the Aitutaki team, choosing to mutiny and rejoin a now incredibly strong Rarotonga alliance.

Why it mattered: It was the first and only time a contestant chose to mutiny in "Survivor" history. But despite the epic betrayal, one of the four contestants remaining in the Aitutaki alliance would go on to win the season.

4. 'Survivor History' (Episode 9, 'Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains')

What happened: James. "J.T." Thomas, part of the Heroes alliance, is conned into giving Russell, part of the Villains alliance, his immunity idol.

Why it mattered: J.T. thought this move would swing Russell over to the Heroes alliance. It didn't, and it gave a powerful player a major advantage. It's considered an all-time blunder.

3. 'Ready to Bite the Apple' (Episode 11, 'Survivor: China')

What happened: Amanda Kimmel decides that fellow contestant James Clement is too big a threat to keep around. So she works with her alliance and an outsider, Peih-Gee, to send James home.

Why it mattered: James should have been safe, as he possessed not one, but two immunity idols. But he failed to play his idol at the Tribal Council and was sent home despite, theoretically, holding all the cards.

2. 'Going Down in Flames' (Episode 10, 'Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains')

What happened: At the first Tribal Council for the newly merged Yin Yang tribe (a merged tribe is created towards the end of a season), which combines the Heroes and Villains alliances. But the old alliances still linger behind the scenes. A former Villain, Parvati, reveals she has not one, but two immunity idols. She then uses them to protect two of her fellow Villains and put their alliance in the majority within the new tribe.

Why it mattered: First, remember in "Survivor History" when J.T. gave up his idol to Russell? That could have come in handy in this episode, when the Tribal Council voted to send him home. Second, it's just an all-time stunning move by Parvati, which is why it's so high up this list.

1. 'If It Smells Like a Rat, Give It Cheese' (Episode 13, 'Survivor: Micronesia')

What happened: Erik Reichenbach, the last man left in "Survivor: Micronesia," is convinced to give up his immunity by the four women remaining alongside him. They promptly vote him out.

Why it mattered: Never give up immunity. This is considered the dumbest move in "Survivor" history, and I'm not sure there's even a close second.
