Looking for a thrilling watch on Netflix this week? You’ve come to the right place. I’ve just combed through Netflix’s January 2026 slate, and I’m picking out the new thriller movies arriving on the popular streaming service over the next several days.

This week’s crop includes a dark thriller that sees two couples forced to share a plush manor, and this weekend getaway quickly turns into a tense standoff. Then there’s “The Rip,” which is one of the most high-profile Netflix originals of 2026, starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Plus, one of last week’s picks is sticking around after making waves in the top 10.

If you’re in the mood for streaming some great thriller movies on Netflix this week, here are three picks I recommend adding to your watchlist. And check out my guide to the Netflix exclusive shows and movies added this week.

Best Netflix thriller movies to watch this week

‘Bone Lake’ (2025)

“Bone Lake” flew under the radar when it landed in movie theaters last year, but the dark thriller, with erotic overtones, could be about to make a major splash on Netflix. While far from flawless, this gripping thriller has all the ingredients to draw attention, including an instantly hooky setup and a mid-movie twist that will leave you reeling. Unfortunately, its second half is significantly less engaging, and the flick stumbles across the finish line, but there’s lots of solid tension building on display in the first act, making it worth a watch.

The movie opens with a couple, Diego (Marco Pigossi) and Sage (Maddie Hasson), arriving at a lavish lakeside house for a romantic weekend. But before they can even unpack their weekend supplies, another couple, Will (Alex Roe) and Cin (Andra Nechita), turn up on the doorstep claiming to have also booked the property for a romantic weekend. Forced to share the place, what should have been a dream getaway spirals into a dark nightmare.

‘The Rip’ (2026)

Netflix is set to debut its first tentpole action-thriller original of 2026 this week, and it’s certainly got quite a bit going for it. The macho movie is the latest pairing between frequent collaborators Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and looks to play on a sense of paranoia as a tight-knit group of cops find themselves unsure of who they can trust after stumbling on a valuable stash. Here’s hoping it can get Netflix’s original thriller slate off to a strong start.

Set in Miami, it follows a cop squad that finds a stash of money, totalling several million dollars, in a derelict house. However, when outside parties become aware of the find, things get tense, as the lines between friend and foe start to blur. As noted, “The Rip” marks Damon and Affleck’s latest on-screen collaboration, the first since 2023’s “The Last Duel,” and based on all the evidence to date, I’m confident it’ll rocket straight to a Netflix No. 1.

‘Stone Cold Fox’ (2025)

Watch On

Netflix added revenge-fueled thriller “Stone Cold Fox” last week, and it’s enjoying a successful run on the world’s biggest streaming service. As of writing, the movie ranks at No. 6 in the platform’s top 10, but with a lukewarm 57% score from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, its popularity may be a fading trend. I’d personally rate the movie in a similar ballpark (it’s fine, but hardly fantastic), but I do think it has one big strength that helps it appeal.

The biggest advantage “Stone Cold Fox” has is that it runs a very trim 85 minutes long. This makes it a suitable watch for those craving a shorter flick that can be enjoyed on a midweek evening, or when your attention span isn’t up to a three-hour epic. The movie centers on a headstrong woman (Kiernan Shipka), forced to break back into an abusive commune she previously escaped from to rescue her sister from a ruthless queenpin (Krysten Ritter).
