Netflix has a reputation for dropping more exclusive content than almost any of its rival streaming services. Each week, Netflix launches a slew of original movies and TV shows that you won’t find anywhere else, and naturally, the next seven days are no exception.

There’s plenty of new Netflix content that looks worthy of your watchlist in the days ahead. Ranging from a very British murder mystery series, that’s based on a classic Agatha Christie story, to a macho action-thriller that sees frequent collaborators Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reunited on screen. Oh, and this week also marks the swan song of a popular Netflix sitcom series.

If you’re looking for the latest Netflix movies and shows, here’s the best new originals launching on the world’s biggest streaming service this week.

‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials’

There’s been plenty of murder-mystery fun on Netflix in recent months, and that trend continues with “Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials.” Any self-respecting genre fan will be well aware of Christie, a real titan in the murder-mystery scene, and this three-part Netflix show adapts the English author’s 1929 book of the same name.

Binge-watchers might be disappointed with the trim episode count, but I’m seeing its shorter length as a big plus. It’s a Netflix original series that you could conceivably polish off in just a single evening.

Set in 1920s England, “Seven Dials” takes place at a lavish country manor, where a seemingly innocent practical joke has gone terribly wrong with deadly consequences. Clearly, Christie’s iconic sleuth, Detective Poirot, was a little too busy to take this case, so investigating the murder falls to the young Lady Eileen Brent (Mia McKenna-Bruce), who slowly unravels a chilling plot. This looks like an engaging and cozy mystery series with plenty of twists.

‘The Upshaws’ Part 7

All good things must come to an end, and after 48 episodes to date, “The Upshaws” are preparing to say their goodbyes. This easy-watching sitcom starring national treasure Wanda Sykes, Mike Epps and Kim Fields debuts its final season on January 15.

It’s a show that feels very old-school, the type of network-style comedy that dominated the airways before the rise of streaming. Fans will no doubt flock to watch the series draw to a close, and if you’ve yet to meet The Upshaw clan, you’ve got plenty of episodes to watch.

In classic sitcom style, “The Upshaws” centers on a hilarious and often dysfunctional family in Indianapolis. Bennie (Epps) is the head of the family, a well-intentioned mechanic, trying his best to provide for his loved ones, including his wife (Fields) and four children.

In the mix is also fan-favorite character, Lucretia (Sykes), Mike’s sister-in-law. “The Upshaws” has never been a Netflix series looking to break new ground, but it’s always been good fun.

‘The Rip’

Rarely have I been so confident in a Netflix movie rocketing straight to No. 1 as I am with “The Rip.” This flick appears to hit all the notes that the streaming service’s subscribers love.

For starters, it’s an action-thriller, and the thriller genre is persistently popular on Netflix. Furthermore, it also stars two recognizable faces: Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. “The Rip” certainly looks like one of Netflix’s most compelling originals this month. Consider me hyped.

In their latest collaboration, following their previous joint venture, 2021’s hugely overlooked “The Last Duel,” Affleck and Damon play cops in the Miami police force. Stumbling upon a hidden stash containing millions in cash in a derelict house, loyalties are tested when outsiders learn of the money, and knowing who to trust suddenly becomes very tricky. I see plenty of potential with this core premise, so here’s hoping “The Rip” can live up to its billing.
