Samsung’s trifold phone launch date just tipped — mark your calendars

Samsung's much-rumored tri-fold smartphone could launch before the end of October. A new report claims that Samsung is prepping the phone to debut at Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit (APEC) before the end of the month.
The Korean publication Yonhap News Agency says Samsung is planning to unveil the so-called Galaxy G Fold at APEC in Gyeongju, Korea, which is set to take place on October 31 and November 1. This aligns with multiple rumors that pointed to an October launch for one of the most ambitious foldable phones yet.
What Yonhap doesn't say and what hasn't been made clear by previous leaks is whether or not Samsung plans to release the trifold phone outside of South Korea and China. There is some precedence here with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold SE which launched as a more premium version of the Z Fold 6 last fall..
That foldable was only for sale in Korea and China, though many of its features, including a slimmer design and bigger display, made their way into the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which did get a global release this year.
Riding Galaxy Z Fold 7 success
The success of the Z Fold 7 may change Samsung's plans if it was considering keeping the trifold local. According to Samsung's own data, the Z Fold 7 is performing at a "record pace."
Nearly 30% of Galaxy Z Fold 7 sales are coming from previous Galaxy Ultra owners, according to Samsung. Additionally, Samsung says that the Fold 7 is exceeding sales of the Fold 6 by 50%.
Earlier this month Samsung's CEO TM Roh confirmed that the trifold is launching this year, but even with US Senior VP of Mobile Production Management Drew Blackard giving interviews on the product, it's not clear what Samsung is planning globally. Perhaps strong Z Fold 7 sales will swing the tech giant toward a worldwide release.
