Before Prime Day ends, you should pick up an iPhone case — here's my discounted favorite

I find myself the proud new owner of an iPhone 17, and unless I want this phone to wind up as beat up over as my last iPhone, I had better pick up a case. Fortunately, the waning hours of Amazon Prime Day deals give me the chance to get one of the best iPhone 17 cases for a lower price than usual.

My thrifty nature already had me eyeballing Smartish's Gripmunk case of the iPhone 17, our pick for the best budget case for iPhone 17 owners. Normally a $24 case, the Gripmunk has dropped to just $16, thanks to Amazon's price-cutting ways. An $8 price cut may not seem like much, but it does work out to a 32% reduction from the usual cost of this case.

The Smartish Gripmunk promises 6-foot drop protection for the iPhone 17, with ridges keeping the phone's screen and camera lenses from coming into contact with surfaces. In addition to grippy sides, the case offers MagSafe compatibility. You can choose from a variety of colors to accent whatever iPhone 17 model you happen to have.

Don't let the low price of the Gripmunk fool you into thinking you're getting some cut-rate accessory. The Gripmunk promises 6-foot drop protection, and unless you're NBA power forward, that's going to cover the kinds of heights you're most likely to drop your iPhone 17 from. In addition, the sides have a nice texture to help prevent you from losing your grip on your phone with the first place.

The Gripmunk also works with MagSafe charging, so you'll be able to wirelessly charge your phone without having to pop it out of its case. I also like the idea of raised edges around the camera array, since a busted-up camera lens is what ultimately did in my last iPhone.

If you want to expand your accessories, Smartish is selling versions of the Gripmunk that come bundled with either a rope strap that attaches to the case, a screen protector to shield the 6.3-inch display or a MagSafe wallet that attaches to back of the phone. All these bundles push up the price from the Gripmunk's discounted cost, though.
