Next month sees the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2’s first major new exclusive of 2026, Mario Tennis Fever. And to celebrate the arrival of Mario’s latest sporting adventure, on the same day, Nintendo will release the “first new colored” Joy-Con 2 controllers for its best-selling hybrid console.
The Joy-Con 2 Light Purple and Light Green launch on February 12 and will retail for $99. Yes, that's pretty hefty, but it’s the standard price for a set of Joy-Con 2 controllers, so at least there’s no markup if you want to switch up from the default orange and blue set that comes out of the box with the Switch 2.
Aside from the light purple and light green accents that surround the primary black plastic shell, these Joy-Con 2 controllers are functionally identical to the standard Joy-Con 2s already found on the Nintendo Switch 2. They also come with accompanying wrist straps, letting you enjoy Mario Tennis Fever’s Swing Mode without sending your controllers flying into your television.
One minor thing to note is that the Switch 2 main unit is designed to match the standard orange/blue colorway. That means these new shades won’t sync up with the inner strips found on either side of the hybrid console. However, considering the orange/blue strips are obscured when the Joy-Con 2s are connected to the Switch 2 unit, I don’t imagine this will be a dealbreaker for many owners wishing to purchase these nifty new controllers.
And that’s pretty much all there is to these new Joy-Con 2 controllers. While they’re the first new color variant for the controllers, I’m certain they won’t be last. Personally, such a minor visual swap isn’t enough to convince me to pay up an additional $99. In the future, if Nintendo releases more bespoke special edition controllers themed around a particular game, I could be tempted to swap out my current default orange/blue Joy-Con 2 controllers.
2026 is the Nintendo Switch 2’s first full year on the market, so more official accessories may follow, and the big-N has already announced a relatively strong lineup of new games for this year, including Mario Tennis Fever, Pokémon Pokopia, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. Plus, we can’t forget the upcoming FromSoftware (developer of Elden Ring) exclusive, The Duskbloods.
