Stetson Wright had won five straight All-Around Gold Buckles when he was forced to sit the National Finals Rodeo out through injury a year ago. He returned to Las Vegas atop the All-Around standings, but with Wacey Schalla, the best NFR rookie since Wright himself, on his tail. Wright, however, has dominated the competition to pull well clear. He could either take things easy on Night 10 — the final round — or aim to break $1m for the season. He's $263,641 short, having earned $344,689 from the NFR alone.

At the outset of NFR 2025, Wright had trailed Schalla by $2,421.45 in the Bull Riding standings and led the 20-year-old by $32,684.91 in the All-Around. He's now $101,076.80 clear in the former, and $166,345.53 in the latter, and Wright's brothers Stetson and Statler have got in on the action too.

Although Schalla has just run out of steam, he's done himself proud. This is the first time since 2001 that the All-Around title battle had come down to a pair of riders competing in two separate disciplines. Wright famously became the first rookie to win the All-Around title at the end of his debut season in 2019. Nobody's done it since, mainly because the man himself has had a near-total stranglehold on the National Finals Rodeo's marquee title ever since.

Shad Mayfield took top honors in his absence last year, but the manner of his victory served as a warning that Wright has heeded. Having been leapfrogged by Coleman Proctor on the penultimate night, Mayfield had to dig himself out of an almighty hole right at the death. He also squandered an enormous lead in the Tie-Down Roping to finish second behind Riley Webb.

The bigger the purse, the quicker things change, and there's a record $17.5 million of prize money up for grabs over the 10-night run at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus. Team Roping and Steer Wrestling are going all the way to the wire.
