The stars could align for a new marathon world record on Sunday, as Sabastian Sawe tackles the fastest of the World Marathon Majors for the first time. 2:00:35 is the time the Kenyan needs to beat. Sawe is up against defending champion Milkesa Mengesha, while Rosemary Wanjiru is the favorite in Tigist Ketema's absence.
You can watch Berlin Marathon 2025 from anywhere with a VPN and potentially for FREE.
The 2025 Berlin Marathon takes place on Sunday, September 21. Full schedule below.

Sawe was a track journeyman until he clocked the fastest time of 2024 and the fifth-fastest of all time in his marathon debut in Valencia last year. How did the 29-year-old follow that up? By winning the London Marathon in April, of course.
Until the late Kelvin Kiptum set the current world record at the Chicago Marathon in 2023, the previous eight men’s world records were set in Berlin, and right now nobody looks likelier to dominate than Sawe. Mengesha, victorious in Berlin last year, tried to keep pace with Sawe in London but ended up paying the price, finishing in 10th, more than six-and-a-half minutes behind.
Sawe's compatriot Wanjiru made her marathon debut in Berlin in 2022, finishing second. The likeliest challenger to the 30-year-old winner of the 2023 Tokyo Marathon is Degitu Azimeraw, a silver medalist in London in 2021.
