The Prime Video top 10 has been rotating plenty over the last week, with movies freshly added to the streaming service finding their way into this ranking of the most popular picks on the platform right now.

However, a word of warning: Just because a movie finds its way into the Prime Video top 10, it doesn’t automatically mean it’s worthy of your watchlist. It’s far from uncommon for a few stinkers to find their way into the mix. That’s why I’ve combed through today’s Prime Video top 10 movies ranking to select the current entries most worth watching this week.

Best movies in the Prime Video top 10

‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ (2000)

Your porch pumpkin may not even be in the garbage yet, but clearly, Prime Video subscribers are ready to deck the halls with holiday cheer as 2000’s iconic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” has claimed the No. 1 spot in the top 10 as we enter November. As somebody with a whole Santa’s sack worth of nostalgia for this Jim Carrey comedy, I very much approve. The critics didn’t think much of it, but it’s a certified holiday classic for very good reasons.

Based on the Dr. Seuss children’s book of the same name, it’s set in the town of Whoville, where cheery citizens live in harmony as the holidays approach. However, high up in an isolated cave on Mount Crumpit, lives the Grinch, a twisted and bitter creature that hatches a dastardly plan to ruin Christmas for the jolly locals down below. His scheme hits a hitch when he meets young Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen), who shows him rare kindness and the true reason for the season.

‘Wicked’ (2024)

It’s officially “Wicked: For Good” month, so there’s never been a better time to watch (or rewatch) the first chapter of the musical sensation. The upcoming sequel is no doubt going to be one of the biggest theatrical movies of the year, and its predecessor is a phenomenal adaptation of the first act of the long-running Broadway show. I’ve watched it more times than I can count over the past 12 months, and to this day, the magic hasn’t faded, and the curtain-closing "Defying Gravity" number still gives me chills.

Bringing the globally loved Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman musical to the big screen, “Wicked” tells the previously untold story of the Witches of Oz. Set years before a girl named Dorothy arrived in the magical fantasy setting, it follows social outcast Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) at Shiz University. There she meets the popular and vain Glinda (Ariana Grande) and despite their many differences, the pair strike up an unlikely friendship. But their bond is tested when Elphaba learns of the Wizard of Oz’s true nature.

“Watch the Skies” is a sci-fi movie inspired by the works of Steven Spielberg, and with a big “Stranger Things” vibe. Like the popular Netflix series, it also centers on a group of young misfits as they find themselves in the middle of an out-of-this-world adventure. Released as “UFO Sweden” in its native country, “Watch the Skies” is noted for being the first feature film released in the U.S. dubbed entirely by A.I. Produced in collaboration with A.I. company Flawless, this version of the movie is digitally altered to match up the original actor’s mouths with a new English language track.

Denise (Inez Dahl Torhaug) is a rebellious teenager in foster care searching for answers about her father. Convinced he isn't really dead, but was instead abducted by extraterrestrial forces, she joins forces with a quirky UFO-hunting club full of outcasts, and together they set about finding the truth. This hunt for Denise’s father leads them on a high-stakes adventure that goes beyond the boundaries of our known reality.
