Looking to escape the increasingly cold seasonal weather by hunkering down and watching some movies on Hulu? Then there’s good news: the streaming service has confirmed its slate of new additions for December 2025, and there’s plenty of films worth watching.
Hulu is set to add a couple dozen movies this month, from old favorites, like the entire “Home Alone” franchise (you can stop after the first two) to brand new flicks released in 2025. With so much choice, picking out the ones to watch first can be a daunting task, which is why I’ve turned to review site Rotten Tomatoes for a guiding hand in selecting the highlights. All three of these new-to-Hulu movies here scored at least 90% or higher.
Of course, a high Rotten Tomatoes score isn’t a cast-iron guarantee that a movie will appeal to your specific tastes, but it’s a solid indicator that a flick is generally considered high quality. So, here are the three movies added to Hulu in December 2025 that critics really raved about.
‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ (2014)

Hulu has added a trio of “Planet of the Apes” movies this month. The 2001 Mark Wahlberg-fronted remake (avoid!) alongside the first two chapters in the “Apes” prequel series, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”
You’ll have to forgive the clunky titles, because otherwise, these are the rare franchise spin-offs that might actually surpass the original. 2014’s “Dawn” is the standout of the bunch, with the Rotten Tomatoes score to match. It’s intense, action-packed, and surprisingly tragic. Oh, and the CGI on the computer-created primates is astonishingly good, like freaky levels of lifelike.
Following on from “Rise,” intelligent chimpanzee Caesar (voiced and mocapped by Andy Serkis) has created an ape colony on the edge of a ruined San Francisco. When humans, led by a survivor named Malcolm (Jason Clarke), wander into Ape territory, the fragile truce between the two species is threatened. Things escalate when a vindictive bonobo named Koba (Toby Kebbell) adds fuel to the fire, seeking to turn the sides against each other.

‘Strange Harvest’ (2025)
I wasn’t familiar with “Strange Harvest” until I started digging into Hulu’s movie slate for December 2025, but between the interesting premise, the appealing trailer, and the very strong reviews, consider me sold. This one is going straight to the top of my Hulu watchlist when it arrives on the streaming service over the holidays. What stands out to me most is the genre; it’s a mockumentary horror, which isn’t a combination you see often.
From writer/director Stuart Ortiz (who helmed 2011’s “Grave Encounters” alongside frequent collaborator Colin Minihan), “Strange Harvest” centers on two detectives (Peter Zizzo and Terri Apple) on the hunt for a notorious serial killer known as Mr. Shiny. After a near 20-year absence, California’s Inland Empire region thought the nightmare was over, but when Mr. Shiny returns, unleashing a fresh wave of terror, cryptic clues left at the crime scene could hold the key to unmasking this killer. But things are never that simple…

‘Together’ (2025)
While we’re on the subject of well-received horror flicks released in 2025, Hulu is also adding “Together” this month, on New Year’s Eve, to be exact. I’m eager to give it a rewatch, as I had a blast with this body-shocker in theatres. One of its biggest strengths is that it focuses on a couple in a long-term relationship, played by real-life husband-and-wife Dave Franco and Alison Brie. Naturally, this means the pair have plenty of chemistry, and are very well suited for playing romantic partners who are in it for the long haul.
“Together” is also a movie where the less you know before watching, the better. If you’re willing to trust my recommendation (and the high Rotten Tomatoes score), skip the trailer above and watch it as fresh as possible. Want a little more context? It follows Tim (Franco) and Millie (Brie) after they move from the city to the countryside. In this new surrounding, cracks in their relationship start to widen, but an encounter with a mysterious (and sinister) force brings them back together, closer than they’ve ever been before. That’s all I’m giving you. You’ll have to watch to find out more!
