All the new releases coming to HBO Max this May
May is almost upon us, and that means it's time to look ahead to the new movies and TV shows coming to all the best streaming services in the next few weeks. If you're an HBO Max subscriber, you'll be pleased to know that the streamer has another stack month coming up.
Cinephiles will likely be particularly impressed with the line-up this month, as HBO Max's movie library is welcoming dozens of new watches, including Emerald Fennell's adaptation of "Wuthering Heights," the Charli XCX mockumentary "The Moment," and an intense psychological thriller, "Lurker." Plus, there's also a new HBO original movie from Jim Rash and a returning Jason Momoa docuseries to look forward to (among dozens of other releases).
Scroll on for more info about our top HBO Max watches for May 2026, plus a complete rundown of everything heading to the platform this month.
Article continues belowNew on HBO Max in April 2026: Top Picks
'Wuthering Heights' (2026)
While I personally wasn't a huge fan of Emerald Fennell's adaptation of "Wuthering Heights," it's one of the most talked-about movies of 2026 so far, and therefore, it stands out as a noteworthy addition to the platform this month.
Pitched as "a bold and original reimagining" of Emily Brontë's beloved novel, Fennell's romantic tragedy is big on grand costumes and striking visuals and leans heavily into the sensuality of Cathy (Margot Robbie) and Heathcliff's (Jacob Elordi) toxic, torrid love affair in 18th-Century England. It earned a 3-star verdict from Alix Blackburn (read her "Wuthering Heights" review to see why), but it certainly wasn't for everyone; it may nevertheless find fresh fans now that it's streaming.

'On the Roam' season 2
Two years ago, Jason Momoa hit the road in search of inspiration, looking to meet and learn the secrets of some of the world's greatest artists, and next month, he's doing it again.
Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
Yes, "On the Roam" is back for six more episodes, and once again, the DC star is traveling the country in search of more art, more adventure, and friendship, all through the lens of craftsmanship. Momoa said that the show's renewal was "a dream come true" back in 2024 and promised the second season would be "an extraordinary adventure," and looking at how thrilled he seems in the above trailer, it looks like he's delivered.

'Lurker'
"What's the difference between love and obsession," sings Archie Madekwe, in the trailer for "Lurker," a psychological thriller/drama movie written and directed by Alex Russell (producer and writer on "Beef" and "The Bear") that debuted to rave reviews last year.
"Lurker" introduces us to retail assistant Matthew (Théodore Pellerin), who gets pulled into the orbit of a rising pop star, Oliver (Madekwe), and uses the opportunity to become someone. But with Olly's entire entourage vying for his attention, Matthew strives to prove himself as a friend, rather than just another fan... and when that relationship becomes strained on Oliver's way up, access and proximity to the star becomes a matter for life and death.

'The Moment'
Charli XCX fans, May 29 is quite literally your "moment," as Aidan Zamiri's 2026 satirical mockumentary about the British pop artist "The Moment" is coming to HBO Max at the end of the month.
If you missed it in theaters, "The Moment" finds the singer at the tail end of "Brat Summer," more famous than ever and prepping for her arena tour. While she and her team find promoting the album "cringe," her label is committed to maintaining its cultural relevance, and so we follow a fictionalized version of Charli as she navigates the complexities of being a rising star and under intense industry pressure and scrutiny. It drew mixed reactions from critics, but Charli XCX fans will no doubt relish seeing the star parody her own image.

'Miss You, Love You'
"The Moment" isn't the only movie you can stream on May 29, as HBO recently announced that a new original movie would debut that same day. This is "Miss You, Love You," which was written and directed by Academy Award-winning writer (and "Community" star) Jim Rash.
The film revolves around grieving widow Diane Patterson (played by Allison Janney), who is forced to plan her husband's funeral alongside a total stranger: her estranged son's assistant, Jamie Simms (Andrew Rannells). Together, the pair fumble through the arrangements, navigating grief and the bizarre circumstances that have brought them together. Per the movie's logline, that partnership becomes "a conduit for connection, laughter and healing for this mother and her unexpected surrogate son."

If it’s in the theaters or available to stream somewhere, he’s probably watched it… especially if it has a dragon in it. Before joining the team, he was a Staff Writer at What To Watch where he wrote about a broad range of shows that stretched from "Doctor Who" and "The Witcher" to "Bridgerton" and "Love Island". When he’s not watching the next must-see movie or show, he’s probably still in front of a screen playing massive RPGs, reading, spending a fortune on TCGs, or watching the NFL.
