Prime Day camera discounts — here's how I'd upgrade my kitbag

With the Prime Day deals now into their third day, it could be a good time to pick up one of the best cameras at a very respectable price.

As is often the case with these kinda of sales events, the reductions on pricier mirrorless bodies are, for the most part, pretty poor. Canon is the only major player offering significant discounts, like $150 off the fantastic Canon EOS R50V at B&H. Lumix and Sony are offering only modest discounts, and typically on older models like the A7 III (currently $1,398 at B&H), while Nikon and Fuji are true to form and nowhere to be seen.

Interestingly, though, there are some awesome deals on action and vlogging cameras. My favorite deal is on the GoPro MAX2, one of my top 360 cameras, which is currently $200 off at Amazon.

I've waded through the river of crappy camera deals to find only the ones I'd recommend this Prime Day. Here they are.

Don't be fooled by the dodgy deals

There are a lot of deals out there, but not all of them are good. Take this, the Sony a6700, which is currently reduced from $1,599 to $1,399 at Amazon. Sounds great, right?

Well, let me clue you in on a little price tracking info: the a6700 sat at $1,399 from August 2024 to July 2025, then it got hiked up to $1,500. Back in March, it got hiked up in price again to $1,599. So sure, there are discounts on it right now, but it's only going back down to where it started.

Or how about the Lumix S5IIX, which is ostensibly reduced from $1,919 to $1,797 at Amazon. Well, that got hiked to $1,900 in April so it could look good now. I've seen that camera drop under the $1,500 mark in the past, which is where I'd expect to see it given it's nearly 3 years old.

There's a lot of that floating about right now. "Dynamic pricing" so to speak. I won't be including that kind of deal here. No sir-ee.

Editor-approved Prime Day camera deals

Canon EOS R50 V
Canon EOS R50 V: was $719 now $569 at BHPhoto

In our EOS R50 V review, we gave this little camera 4.5 stars, as it's a fantastic little vlogging tool. And now, it's cheaper than ever at B&H.

Sony A7 III
Sony A7 III: was $1,998 now $1,398 at BHPhoto

This isn't the lowest we've seen the A7 III drop — that was to $1,298 at various points over the last couple of years. However, this is still a fair price that's a little below the average value. Don't believe the $1,998 MSRP, though, as it actually tends to hover around the $1,500 mark. I owned this camera, and can testify to how strong of a performer it is.

Panasonic Lumix S1RII
Panasonic Lumix S1RII: was $3,299.99 now $2,997.99 at Amazon

This is still a fairly new camera, so I was surprised to see it dropping at all. Lumix does tend to be generous with its discounts, though. We loved the S1RII when our producer Paul swapped to it from Sony for video work — it's an outstanding hybrid workhorse, especially if video is the priority.

GoPro MAX2
GoPro MAX2: was $499.99 now $299 at Amazon

This is my favorite deal so far this Prime Day. The MAX2 is probably the closest rival to Insta360's X5 in the 360 market. This $200 discount is rather surprising, as the MAX2 is still very new. Unless you're invested in Insta360 or DJI systems already, it's the 360 camera deal I recommend.

DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro
DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro: was $339 now $288 at Amazon

The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro held the top spot on my best action cameras list for a decent stretch it got replaced by the Osmo Action 6). Despite that, it's still fantastic, and will give pros and content creators everything they could want from a rugged camera.

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Drive bundle
DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Drive bundle: was $496.99 now $375 at Amazon

The Osmo Pocket 3 has been on sale throughout Prime Day so far. While the base bundle has sold out at Amazon, the Drive bundle (which is basically the basic combo plus a car windscreen mount) is still a very good price. DJI gear is expensive in the U.S. these days due to tariffs (and you can't even get a lot of its newer gear), so you have to take whatever deals you can find.

Fujifilm Instax mini 12
Fujifilm Instax mini 12: was $105.95 now $79.95 at Amazon

There's nothing else to say about the Instax mini 12 other than it's a whole lot of fun. It's our favorite instant camera for beginners and, with this deal, is cheaper than ever.
