When I tell you I love buying new running shoes and apparel, I’m not joking. I love the excitement of trialling new gear on my runs, seeing the effect it has on my confidence and performance, and, if I’m honest, having fun matching my sneakers to my shorts.
The only problem? It’s an expensive addiction. As soon as a pair of shoes or a jacket includes the word “performance” in its description, you can almost guarantee the price tag will be on the higher side. That’s why I get particularly excited when a sale rolls around, like the early Presidents’ Sale happening at New Balance right now.
I’ve scoured the discounts to find the pieces I would genuinely spend my own money on, and have uncovered a few hidden gems. One deal I wouldn't overlook is the New Balance Fresh Foam X 860v14 running shoe; it’s down to $109.99 from $139.99. This is a tempting 21% on a reliable daily trainer that can comfortably handle big mileage.
There are plenty of great deals up for grabs, so I recommend getting a head start while the New Balance Presidents’ Sale is live. For a full breakdown of the top discounts available right now, be sure to check out our Presidents’ Day sales guide.

If you’re updating your running kit, I’d also consider the smaller essentials. I like these lightweight New Balance quarter socks because they combine NB DRY moisture-wicking technology with a cushioned terry footbed, which can make a noticeable difference on longer runs.

These are the kind of no-fuss training shorts I tend to reach for on repeat. The stretch woven fabric moves comfortably with you, and the built-in liner with NB DRY technology helps keep things feeling dry when the intensity of your runs spikes up.

For longer or faster runs, this bra is worth having in your kit. It offers reliable support for high-intensity activity, the NB DRY fabric helps keep you dry, and the adjustable straps and band make it comfortable to wear no matter your shape or the length of your workout.

I’d grab this jacket for runs when the weather is unpredictable. It’s water- and wind-resistant to help keep you dry and protected, the hood packs neatly into the collar, and the lightweight design folds up easily to throw in a bag. It’s one of those practical pieces that works just as well for everyday wear.

I actually bought this half-zip for my boyfriend’s birthday last year, and it turned out to be the perfect ploy to get him to join me on more winter runs. It features the signature NB HEAT technology, which provides plenty of warmth and the zippered chest pocket is great for storing keys or small essentials. I just wish this 24% discount was on when I bought it!

This hooded layer works well for cooler mornings, whether you’re heading out for a run or just stepping outside to grab coffee. The NB HEAT fabric keeps you warm without getting sweaty, the hood comes in handy when the wind picks up, and the pockets are perfect for your keys or phone. Plus it's got a quarter off the price right now!

I’ve tried my fair share of New Balance shoes, and honestly, you can’t go wrong with the 860v14 no matter your running level. The Fresh Foam X midsole is nice and cushioned, the Stability Plane keeps your feet supported, and the rocker profile helps smoothen your strides. What's not to like?
