Played by show creator and sometimes-writer Brian Jordan Alvarez, Evan struggles to deal with the classroom as an ideological battleground, with the professional, political, and personal aspects of working at a high school combining to leave him questioning whether he can be his true self. Evan is gay and his sexuality, plus on-again-off-again romance with Malcolm (Jordan Firstman), is a running theme.
Fellow teachers also trying to keep their heads above water are Evan's best friend Gwen Sanders (Stephanie Koenig) and gym teacher Markie Hillridge (Sean Patton), while exasperated principal Grant Moretti (Enrico Colantoni) tries to keep things on an even keel.
Season 2 continues down the first's avenue of using hot topics in society as a jumping off point for lots of wit, silly gags and some genuinely heartfelt moments.

What storylines are there in "English Teacher" season 2?
Much like in its first run, "English Teacher" season 2 uses hot topics as a starting off point – instead of any preachy satirizing – for much of its comedy.
This means climate change, Covid, military recruitment and student phone usage all feature as titular character Evan tries (and often fails) to stand up for what he thinks is right.
Each episode lasts a tight 20 minutes and begins with a 1980s hit song, such as "Manic Monday" by The Bangles.
