Tom's Guide Verdict

The Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper is probably the most unique, couple-friendly mattress topper we've ever tested. With one side firm and the other soft for bed sharers, it's designed to provide uncompromising comfort to couples with different sleep needs and body types. — and we found it accomplishes what it sets out to do. Our side-sleeping main tester found that she loved the softer side, while her stomach-sleeping partner preferred the firmer side...but both agreed that it provided a comfortable surface on which to sleep. We found the cover to be cool-to-touch and great at preventing overheating, while the corner straps attached to it did a thorough job of keeping the topper in place on the bed. Yes, it has a premium sale price of $374 for a queen, but you're paying for a an innovative design with luxury materials.

Helix is a brand that frequently appears in our best mattress guide, creating beds that cater to different sleep positions. However, the brand also gives you a luxurious slice of their premium mattress via their mattress topper collection, and one of the Helix's most interesting topper designs is the Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper.

The Dual Comfort caught our eye as it features a design that's soft on one side and firm on the other to cater to couples with varying weights and sleep preferences. Keen to see if it belongs in our 2025 best mattress toppers guide, we tested it for a month. Here's what we thought...

Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper: Review In Brief

We slept on the Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper for four weeks

I’ve written many mattress topper reviews over the years, including the Helix GlacioTex Premium Mattress Topper review, so I’ve seen first-hand how robust and well-built Helix designs can be. Like Helix's GlacioTex Premium topper (which I rated with four stars) the Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper did not disappoint.

I’m currently sleeping on a Simba Hybrid Ultra, which I find very comfortable, but I’ve been looking for something to add that extra bit of squishy softness to my bed and was keen to see if this topper could make things more comfortable. My front-sleeping partner prefers a much firmer mattress than me, so while I slept on the softer side of this topper, he was happy to stake his claim on the firmer side.

Having tested it for a month, we agreed that it provided an extra layer of comfort and luxury to our already very agreeable mattress.

I found the tension difference between each side of the topper very subtle, however. I tried both sides and found it a little tricky at first to tell the difference between the tensions, but the longer I slept on each side the more noticeable the varying tensions felt.

The topper also comes with Helix’s GlacioTex cooling fabric cover that is designed to pull away heat from the body so you feel like you’re at optimum temperature through the night. This seemed to work well for myself and my partner as we never slept too hot even while testing this topper in the summer months.

Overall, I think that if you and your partner are after a topper that is both supportive and will add a cosy layer to your mattress, this topper is worth consideration. While it won’t satisfy you if you like your bed very firm, I think it’s a good compromise for anyone finding it hard to agree with their partner on a suitable mattress tension.

Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper review: Price & deals

  • A queen is usually reduced to $399 during the standard 20% off sale
  • Returnable during the 120-night sleep trial (same as their mattress trials)
  • Comes with free shipping and a disappointingly short one-year warranty

Usually between $399 for a queen in the standard 20% off sale, the Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper has a premium price point, but it may just save you splurging on a brand new Helix mattress that can cost anywhere between $999 to $2,800.

Helix offers up to 25% off its bedding during bigger sale events (usually connected to federal holidays), which can take the Dual Comfort Mattress Topper down to £374 for a queen and $421 for a king and CA king. There's also a chance to save an extra 2% off during Helix's 25% off sales with the code TOMS27, which takes a queen further down to $364.03.

You can expect to see this discount reappear in the upcoming Presidents’ Day mattress sales in February 2026.

Here are the regular sale prices, plus MSRPs, of every Dual Comfort Topper size:

  • Queen MSRP: $399 (MSRP $498.75)
  • King MSRP: $449 (usually $561.25)
  • California King MSRP: $449 (usually $561.25)

Mattress toppers with split tensions such as the Helix version aren’t as widely available as those that offer one soft, medium or firm tension, which is what makes this Helix design stand out. However, despite the unique design, the Dual Comfort Topper costs the exact same price as every other mattress topper in Helix's topper collection.

You'll never find any Helix mattress topper sold at MSRP, thanks to regular mattress topper deals that shave 20% to 25% off. However, adding the code TOMS27 to your cart during a 25% sitewide sale takes 27% off, bringing a queen-size down to $364.03 (MSRP: $498.66). Extras include a 120-night sleep trial and one-year warranty.

Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper review: Design & materials

  • A soft, contouring memory foam on the softer side
  • A high-density quick-response foam for less sink on the firm side
  • Comes with a cooling cover made from heat-dissipating GlacioTex

I trialled the queen size Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper that I secured to our existing 13” thick hybrid mattress using the topper’s flexible corner straps. As the topper is 3” thick, this made my bed higher than usual, but this extra height also gave the bed a nice hotel-spa style plushness.

While the topper has a split tension, you won’t notice this visually as the topper is finished with a soft and smooth white GlacioTex Cooling cover. This is designed to pull away heat from the body so that you never get too hot while you sleep.

The softer half of the topper features a layer of supportive gel memory foam that helps to enhance pressure relief. It feels very plush and I found that it had a nice cushioned bounce-back when you squish it with your hand. That said, it bounces back nicely so you never feel stuck.

The firmer side has less give to it, although I think the difference between the two sides is very subtle. The firmer side of the topper includes high-density quick-response foam designed to align the spine so you sink less into the surface of the mattress.

Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper review: Performance

  • Arrives rolled up and vacuum-packed in a box, but takes minutes to set up
  • Provided customized comfort and support for two different co-sleepers
  • Cover stayed cool to prevent overheating

I slept on this topper for one month alongside my partner, and tested it in the key areas in line with our mattress methodology: ease of set up, comfort and support and temperature regulation.

Set-up

I found setting up the topper simple. As it comes tightly rolled up and vacuum packed in plastic (just like the best mattresses in a box), it needed to be unboxed and left to expand. This was easy to do as even a queen size isn’t too heavy for one person to handle., and I left the topper to expand fully for four hours and slept on it that same night.

My Simba mattress is 13" thick, but as the Helix topper straps are so generous these slid underneath the mattress smoothly. I left the topper to expand fully for four hours and slept on it that same night.

As the mattress topper is made from memory foam, you can expect some slight off-gassing, but we found the scent t be faint and should disappear after opening a window for a few minutes.

Score: 5 out of 5

Comfort and Support

The main attraction of this topper is that it has both a soft and firmer side in one seamless design, saving you from buying one of the best mattresses for couples. I found the transition from the soft to the firmer side hardly noticeable, and I think that if you sleep in the middle of the topper you're unlikely to notice much difference in the tensions.

When I first rested on the mattress, I didn’t notice much of a difference between the two sides as the difference is so subtle. But after I’d tried a full night on each side, I noticed just how much more cushioned the softer side is compared to the firmer side.

Sleeping on the softer side of this mattress topper made me feel well rested. I often move from my side to back when sleeping, and while this softer side felt comfortable in all sleep positions, it provided the most pressure relief and support when I slept on my side.

My partner is a front sleeper who likes the support of a firmer mattress and it took him a while to get used to how soft the firmer side of this mattress actually is. He noted that while this topper was a little softer than what he is used to and would normally choose, he did enjoy the extra cushioning and support from the topper.

Score: 4.5 out of 5

Temperature regulation

A woman's hand feels how cool the cover of the Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper is.

Like the Helix GlacioTex Premium Mattress Topper that I reviewed over the winter months, the Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper comes with a GlacioTex Cooling Cover for optimal temperature regulation. This cover is made from a 50/50 blend of synthetic polyester and polyethylene. It’s designed to pull heat away from the body and keep you at the optimum temperature so you never get too hot.

I tested the mattress topper over the summer months when the room temperatures never went below 68 F. The topper feels quite thick (particularly on the softer side) but my partner and I never found ourselves getting too hot or feeling stuck.

Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper review: User reviews

  • No customer reviews are available on Helix's website
  • 43% of Amazon customers awarded it 5 stars
  • Amazon reviews praise its comfort and support, but dislike the "slick" cover

While there are no reviews of the Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper direct on the brand’s website. The item is listed over on Amazon.com where it has a 3.7-star rating out of just 15 reviews (a very limited number). The main feedback is that the mattress is very comfy and ideal for two people sharing where one prefers a firm bed and the other prefers it firm. One user describes having less back pain and raves about how comfortable it is.

However, another customer states that they are taking one star off only as they didn’t notice the cooling effects the topper describes., while another review calls the cover material so "slick" that it leads to "sliding". Other reviewers also point out that you’ll need deep fitted sheets because of the thickness of the topper

Should you buy the Helix Dual Comfort Mattress Topper?

Buy it if...

✅ Your partner has a different sleep style, body type, or opinion of your bed: If neither of you are satisfied with your existing mattress tension, adding a topper like this to your bed is a good way to find out what kind of mattress firmness you both prefer. You also get a 100 night sleep trial to fall back on if it isn’t quite for you.

✅ You have an older worn-out mattress: If you don’t want to spend on a new mattress just yet, a topper like this might just be the ideal interim solution. It doesn’t come cheap, but its quality materials feel premium and built to last so it should keep you well rested well past its 100-night sleep trial. I think this topper does well to upgrade a worn mattress with a layer of plushness, or soften up one that is way too firm and lumpy. At 3" thick, it really is as substantial as it looks.

✅You or your partner overheats at night: GlacioTex is found in some of the best cooling mattresses on the market, and so the cover made from this heat-dissipating fabric prevented my husband and I from overheating.

Don't buy it if...

❌ You or your partner needs extra firm support: While this makes for an excellent compromise for anyone who can’t decide on the perfect tension, it isn’t the firmest topper you can find. Even on its firmer side, I think its tension is more on the medium-firm side.

❌ You share a full-size bed: Although the cover is removable, it’s spot-clean only. On the other hand, the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt + Cooling Mattress Topper has a machine-washable cover that's also dryer-safe.

❌ You want a washable, removable cover: This topper is spot-clean only, so you’ll need to ensure you use an additional mattress cover.
