Prime Video kicked off August by adding 52 movies to its library, giving Prime members plenty of new options to stream. But if you don’t pay for a membership, those additions aren’t much help. That's where Prime Video’s free, ad-supported library comes in, offering a surprisingly solid selection of movies at no extra cost. The only downside is that Amazon doesn’t announce when new free titles arrive, so you have to do a bit of digging to discover what’s been added.
That’s where I come in. I’ve scoured through Prime Video’s free movie section to find the titles actually worth watching, because, as you can imagine, free movie libraries can often be filled with flops. You don't even need a Prime subscription to watch them. All you need is a free Amazon account, meaning you can enjoy these movies without paying for another streaming service.
Whether you’re in the mood for post-apocalyptic action-thriller, a romantic horror, or an unhinged superhero comedy, these are the free Prime Video movies worth adding to your watchlist.
‘Snowpiercer’ (2014)
Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon-ho in his English-language directorial debut, “Snowpiercer” is an acclaimed sci-fi thriller based on the 1982 French graphic novel. The film presents a visually striking frozen world where humanity’s last survivors live aboard a self-contained environment divided into distinct sections. While “Parasite” remains Bong’s best film in my opinion, “Snowpiercer” is still a claustrophobic sci-fi masterpiece that’s well worth experiencing at least once.
In a post-apocalyptic future, a failed climate-change experiment plunges Earth into a global ice age. The remaining survivors live aboard the Snowpiercer, a massive, self-sustaining supertrain that continuously circumnavigates the globe. Inside, passengers are strictly divided: the wealthy live in luxury at the front, while the impoverished are forced into overcrowded tail cars at the back. Led by a man named Curtis (Chris Evans), the tail-section residents launch a violent revolt, fighting their way toward the front to seize control of the train’s engine.

‘Dredd’ (2012)
If you’re missing Karl Urban from “The Boys,” or just need something fun, then you’ll want to stream the action-packed sci-fi film “Dredd.” Based on the iconic comic book character, this movie is a gritty, stripped-back take on the futuristic world of Mega-City One. It’s a lean, mean, ultra-violent flick that built a passionate cult following by delivering the kind of adaptation fans had been hoping for after the 1995 Sylvester Stallone movie. Even better, Urban kept Dredd’s helmet on for the entire film, which is dedication.
“Dredd” follows Judge Dredd (Karl Urban), an elite law enforcer in the sprawling Mega-City One, who is assigned to evaluate rookie Judge Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) during a routine patrol. After investigating a brutal crime inside a massive apartment complex, the pair become trapped by Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), a powerful gang leader who controls the building and refuses to let them leave. With their escape blocked and enemies closing in, Dredd and Anderson must fight their way through the tower while completing their mission.

‘Warm Bodies’ (2013)
It’s weird putting romance and horror together, but when done right, the combination can create a unique kind of entertainment. “Warm Bodies” is a perfect example of a film that nails both. The rom-com side of the story is even told entirely through the inner monologue of an undead flesh-eater, giving the movie its unusual charm. While it’s not pure horror and certainly softens some of the genre’s traditional tropes, it brings humor, sweet coming-of-age energy, and genuine heart to the zombie genre, making it a standout entry in the early 2010s.
Eight years after a zombie outbreak, R (Nicholas Hoult) is an unusual member of the undead who spends his days wandering through an abandoned airport with little memory of his former life. During a hunt for supplies, he encounters Julie (Teresa Palmer), a human survivor from a fortified settlement, and unexpectedly saves her from an attack. R hides Julie away from the other zombies, and the pair slowly begin to understand each other as they overcome the dangers surrounding them. However, R gradually regains his humanity through their connection.

‘Fargo’ (1996)
“Fargo” is widely regarded as one of the Coen brothers’ finest works, and I have to agree. This classic thriller packs crime, dark comedy, and drama into a brilliantly unique cinematic experience. If you didn’t know, the film famously opens with a title card claiming that the events took place in Minnesota in 1987, creating the illusion that viewers were watching a true story. In reality, the entire tale was a work of fiction, with the Coen brothers using that framing device to make the film’s bizarre events feel even more believable.
Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) is a struggling Minneapolis car salesman who hires two criminals to kidnap his wife, Jean (Kristin Rudrud), believing he can collect a large ransom from her wealthy father. However, the plan quickly falls apart when the criminals’ actions lead to multiple deaths, attracting the attention of Brainerd police chief Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand). As Marge begins investigating the case, Jerry struggles to maintain his story as the situation becomes increasingly difficult to control.

‘Kick-Ass’ (2010)
If you’re into crude humor and superhero comedy with a heavy dose of violence, “Kick-Ass” should be on your watchlist. The film offers a wildly unconventional spin on the superhero genre, earning a strong cult following and remaining one of the most unique comic book adaptations. Think “Spider-Man” meets “Kill Bill” vibes: you get colorful superhero costumes and teen comedy alongside brutal, hard-R action and slick, “John Wick”-style fight choreography. I’d honestly be surprised if this film doesn’t make you laugh.
Dave (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is an ordinary high school student who decides to become a real-life crime fighter despite having no experience or training. After creating a homemade costume and taking the name Kick-Ass, Dave’s first attempts at stopping criminals leave him badly injured, but a video of his actions spreads online and turns him into a local celebrity. Soon, he crosses paths with the highly skilled father-daughter duo Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Hit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz), who are pursuing their own mission.
