Along with rolling out its usual rotation of new titles for subscribers, Prime Video hasn’t forgotten about its free section thanks to the integration of Freevee into the main app.

That means even viewers without a Prime subscription can watch select movies at no cost (aside from occasional ads), offering more options than just the standard monthly slate. These free films don’t always get the spotlight in the typical “new this month” lists, so the best place to discover them is often under the “recently added” section.

This month, Prime Video added five thrilling movies you can stream for free, and one of them stands out as an overlooked war film based on a true story. Whether you’re in the mood for some intense action, chilling suspense, or simple psychological thrills, there’s something here worth checking out.

If you enjoy gripping war dramas packed with intense action, “Midway” could be the movie you watch this week. While it wasn’t a complete box office failure, industry insiders often label it a “flop.”

Yet, the strong audience ratings indicate that the movie still struck a chord with viewers who appreciate its emotional depth and large-scale battle sequences. Fans longing for the nostalgic feel of classic Hollywood war films will find plenty to enjoy in this one.

“Midway” follows the events leading up to and during the pivotal Battle of Midway in World War II, beginning with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. After the U.S. enters the war, naval intelligence officer Edwin Layton (Patrick Wilson) predicts that Japan’s next target is Midway Atoll and works to crack enemy communications to confirm it.

As American forces prepare, aviators and commanders including Lieutenant Richard “Dick” Best (Ed Skrein), Admiral Chester Nimitz (Woody Harrelson), and others engage in intense naval and aerial combat.

Nia DaCosta and Jordan Peele add some fresh twists to the horror cult classic “Candyman,” infusing plenty of seriously dark humor with sharp commentary. DaCosta’s direct sequel to the 1992 original, based on Clive Barker’s story, is packed with scares and imagined horrors that easily qualify as nightmare fuel. The movie might feel a little short and rushed in places, but it’s still an entertaining ride worth experiencing one evening.

“Candyman” follows visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), who moves with his girlfriend Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris) into a luxury loft in Chicago’s Cabrini‑Green area, built where the infamous housing projects once stood.

Anthony meets a longtime local who tells him about the urban legend of the Candyman, a hook‑handed killer said to appear when his name is repeated five times in a mirror. Intrigued, Anthony investigates and begins incorporating the story into his art, but his curiosity sets off a series of gruesome events.

One glance at the Rotten Tomatoes score for “Abduction” might make you hesitate, and honestly, it probably would have me too. But having watched it years ago as a guilty pleasure, it’s not as bad as the numbers suggest.

It’s pure, simple entertainment: an action-packed thriller that lets Taylor Lautner show he can carry the role of a young action hero. In its undemanding 106 minutes, it delivers plenty of stunts, chases, and excitement, accomplishing exactly what it sets out to do. Sometimes, that’s all you really need from a movie.

“Abduction” centers around 18‑year‑old Nathan Harper (Taylor Lautner), who begins to question his life when he finds his childhood photo on a missing‑persons website and realizes the parents he’s always known aren’t his biological family.

As Nathan starts to investigate, his world collapses when assassins murder his adoptive parents and force him to flee. With only his friend Karen (Lily Collins) by his side, he becomes the target of trained killers and intelligence operatives.
