The Bodyclock Glow 150 is a premium sunrise alarm clock from leading SAD lamp brand Lumie. At its $139 price point, you can expect seamless operation, authentic sunrise and sunset simulations, and multi-functionality — it can be used as a night light, reading lamp and sound machine too. Though it could do with some extra sleep sounds and is a little expensive compared with other clocks of its pedigree, it's a useful addition to both my nighttime and morning routine.

I started testing the Lumie off the back of testing the Hatch Restore 3, which my fellow sleep tech testers and I rate as the #1 sunrise alarm clock of the year. So, the Lumie had a lot to live up to. While it won't be knocking the Hatch off its top spot, I have little to complain about and have enjoyed using it the past week.

From tropical birds to ambient café sounds and bleating goats (if that's what you're into), there are alarm and sleep sounds to chose from too.
Operated via simple buttons on the clock front rather than a smart phone app, the Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 is great for anyone striving to kick their phone addiction and leave sleep-stealing devices out the bedroom.

In late 2024 and 2025, Lumie's product upgrades focused on stylish design and added functionality, particularly for its popular Bodyclock and Halo light therapy lamps. While the core purpose of simulating daylight remains, recent enhancements offer more user control and versatility.
A standout upgrade in the UK is our soon-to-be-reviewed Bodyclock Luxe 700FM. This model enhances the user experience by adding tap-control snooze and audio connectivity (think FM radio and Bluetooth speakers).
Lumie Bodyclock 150: Price
While you can bag a budget sunrise alarm clock at the likes of Amazon and BestBuy for around $30 to $40, these will have limited features and functionality and look a little, well, cheap. You can expect to pay upwards of $100 for a top-rated, good-looking model, but they do tend to double up as a night light, reading lamp and radio too, so you're getting good bang for your buck.
At $139, the Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 sits in the premium price bracket. The price is reflected in its build quality, sound quality and sleek design. That said, it offers similar features to much cheaper models such as the JALL sunrise alarm clock which you can get for just $29.99 in Amazon's current sale. In short, while the features on offer are similar, Lumie does them better and looks better on your bedside.
Within the Lumie brand, the Bodyclock Glow 150 is a mid-range model in the UK (behind the Bodyclock Luxe at £229 and Bodyclock Shine at £149) and second most expensive model in the US (behind the Lumie Bodyclock Shine 300 at $169).
Unlike some more premium options, like Hatch, you won’t need to pay for an ongoing subscription fee access all the Lumie's features, and regular sales on third party retailers like Amazon mean you can often get this clock for around $122/£120.

The Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 is a versatile sleep gadget coming in clutch as a sound machine, wake up light and night light. It retails at $139, but does drop lower around major tech sale periods. Though you may need to wait until Amazon Prime Day or Black Friday to see any discount again. If you're in the UK, the Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 sells for £119 at Amazon, but it's regularly reduced; we recently saw it for £86.99, so it's worth waiting for a fresh discount to kick in.
Lumie Bodyclock 150: Features
The Bodyclock Glow 150 is an alarm clock that mimics the light and color of an authentic sunrise inside your bedroom to wake you up gradually and more naturally. But its uses don't end there. It's also has an audible alarm, functions as a sound machine and night light, and can be used as a bedside lamp and clock.
It's a dome shape made from durable plastic with a chic black base that's likely to blend in with most bedroom aesthetics.
In the morning, the light moves from red to orange to warm white and bright white light, simulating a sunrise, and goes in the other direction to mimic a sunset in the evening.
With a button control panel on the front of the device, you needn't connect the Lumie to your smart phone like other sunrise alarm clocks (ahem, Hatch and Loftie). There's also a digital clock so you can fully part ways with your phone at night to establish a healthy screen-free sleep routine.
Plus it uses LEDs with reduced blue light levels to promote melatonin production and help create an environment where sleep comes easily. I've loved using the Lumie as a reading light, as you can adjust the brightness to create a cozy atmosphere.
In terms of sound, there are 10 calming sleep and wake sounds to choose from including birdsong, ambient noise and nature sounds — goodbye, jarring iPhone alarm.

Lumie Bodyclock 150: Ease of use
Even as a sleep tech writer, I hate gadgets that require tech knowledge to operate. Honestly, who wants to be deciphering and clicking through loads of buttons at the end of a long day? Well, the Bodyclock Glow 150 doesn't require you to.
On the clock-face control panel there are five simple buttons: an alarm button, sunset button, plus and minus, and an 'enter' button. Between these, you can easily set your alarm and bedtime, select your audio preferences, light intensities and sun simulation durations. And the Lumie instructions simply guide you through it.
The clock display automatically adjusts to the light level in your bedroom, but you can customize it via a button on the bottom of the clock if you wish.


One drawback is the fact you must turn on the alarm every night and start the sun-down program manually with the Bodyclock Glow 150. For reference, with the Bodyclock Shine 300, you can pre-set your wind-down and wake-up schedule for the week, meaning you don't have to remember every night.
Overall, even technophobes shouldn't have trouble navigating the Bodyclock Glow 150 sunrise alarm clock. That said, the tech-savvy may prefer a more sophisticated alarm clock with Bluetooth connectivity.

Lumie Bodyclock 150: Performance
I've been testing the Lumie Bodyclock 150 for just over a week, assessing it in key areas of performance, including ease of use, set up and general night-to-night function. Here's how it performed in tests...
Set-up
The Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 is well packaged and comes with everything you need: the clock itself, the connecting lead and socket, and instruction manual.
With guidance from said manual, set up was a simple process. Once you plug the clock in, the time flashes on the digital screen and you can use the + and - buttons to set the current time.


Then it's onto the alarm settings. You input the time you wish to wake up, adjust the light intensity depending on how bright you want your bedroom to be come morning (I'm a deep sleeper so went with the brightest light possible to make sure it got me up and going) and select the sunset duration, choosing from 20, 30 or 45 minutes. I went with the middle option here to make sure there was enough time for the gradual light to stir me from sleep, without it eating into my sleep time too much.
You can then click through the 10 alarm sounds available and select which one (and at what volume) you want to play at the end of the sunrise.
You follow a similar process to program the sunset function too, selecting your desired duration, brightness, time and sleep sound. You can have the clock fade off completely or keep a low-light glow through the night if you prefer.

Sunrise simulation
I'm a true sunrise alarm clock convert and I can't imagine waking up without light inside my bedroom now, especially as the mornings are getting darker as we head into fall.
And the Lumie has not let me down. You can choose from three sunrise durations (20 mins, 30 mins or 45 mins) and the light will transition from a faint red glow through orange to warm white, and even a brighter white if preferred during this time. The intensity is fully adjustable, allowing you to tailor how soft or vivid the light should be at the end of the cycle.
I went with 30 minutes on the brightest setting possible so I had the best chance of feeling bright-eyed and ready for my morning run. I'm more of a get-up-and-go girl than a slow morning person, and a reliable sunrise alarm clock like the Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 helps me spark that morning energy.
Powered by mixed LEDs emitting warm‑white, orange and red hues, the simulation mimics natural sunrise colors and unfolds smoothly without noticeable steps in brightness. As it brightens gradually, you're gently pulled from slumber. This helps regulate your natural circadian rhythm so you feel refreshed rather than groggy upon waking.
And there's science to back this up. A 2014 study by researchers at University College London concluded: "Light exposure during the last 30 min of habitual sleep can increase subjective alertness and improve both cognitive and physical performance after waking."
Alarms
The goal of a sunrise alarm clock is to wake you up with natural light, but that's not always the case, as our sleep features editor Lauren found out when she tested the Lumie Bodyclock Shine 300 for a week and it didn't wake her up once.
So, they come with a back-up audio alarm too. With the Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150, there are 10 alarm sounds to chose from and the alarm goes off at the end of the sunrise simulation to finally pull you from sleep at the end of your sleep cycle after the light has gently stirred you.
You can pick from a simple beep, tropical birds, blackbirds, ambient café noise, bleating goats, a steam train, thunderstorm, crickets or white noise, and adjust the volume of your alarm when setting it so there is less chance of waking your entire household if you're on different sleep schedules.
Although experts don't recommend hitting snooze in the morning as it can make you feel more groggy when you eventually wake up, there is a tap-control snooze button on the Lumie clock. This gives you an extra nine minutes of ZZZs when you tap it.
My alarm sound of choice was tweeting tropical birds. I found this sound made my mornings feel more 'summery' and I certainly woke up in a better mood than I usually do when jolted awake by my phone alarm (is there any worse sound?!). With help from the light, I've found myself hitting snooze a lot less too — and that's coming from a serial snoozer.
Sunset simulation
It's not only a wake up light. When you’re ready to sleep, a fading sunset delivered by the Lumie can help you relax and unwind. The clock reverses the sunrise here, beginning on white light and shifting through orange and finally red hues.
You can set this light to fully turn off by your desired bedtime or have it stay on a dim red light through the night. Meanwhile, the light-sensitive time display fades to low or switches off completely, minimizing unnecessary stimulation.
Although I'm not usually a fan of a night light, I thought I'd give the Lumie a chance. Turns out, I liked sleeping with the low-level warm red light it emits.
And that's not a bad thing, according to a recent systematic review and meta-analysis on light therapy for sleep disorders, which found exposure to "medium illuminance" during nighttime can "markedly improve sleep time."
Sleep sounds
The Lumie offers a basic selection of sleep sounds from white noise to ambient noise and nature sounds including my go-to calming track — crashing waves. Besides this, you can have no sound, tropical birds, a blackbird chirp, ambient café noise, bleating goats, a steam train, thunderstorm, crickets or white noise (notice something? Yes, these are pretty much identical to the alarm sounds, which is a bit disappointing).
While these 10 sounds do the job, they are not as advanced or varied as sleep audio offered by other sunrise alarm clocks. Heck, Hatch even has its own Pillow Talk podcast, guided body scans and ASMR in its sleep sound library (though you have to get behind a paywall to access these).
So, because they're subscription and phone-free, I can't complain about the sleep sounds offered by Lumie.

The Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 gets mixed reviews from customers. Overall, many are happy after purchasing the Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150, but some have a few complaints.
It sports a 4.3 out of 5 star customer rating on the brand's website (note, 5 of 72 reviewers received a sample product or took part in a promotion) and a 4.1 out of 5 star rating at Amazon.
One reviewer sings its praises: "Nothing has helped me fall asleep or wake up in a good mood until I tried this Lumie light." They say they fall asleep naturally with the sunset feature and wake up slowly with the sunrise feature, feeling ready for the day.
"I'm no longer waking up grumpy or with headaches. It is expensive, but for me, it's been a game changer and definitely worth it," they add.
Another customer sums up the product well with the following: "The clock works well but considering it is in the middle of the price points offered by Lumie it has less features than I would have hoped."
Ultimately, the general vibe from customers is it does what it says on the tin, but the price is a bit steep — and I have to agree.

The JALL sunrise alarm clock is a great budget option suitable for both adults as well as for helping get kids out of bed on school mornings. At $45.44 MSRP, the JALL is affordable (even more so now there's 34% off cutting the price to $29.95) and functional. A selling point is this device's combination of eight solid color lights and seven red, green, and blue mood lights. Plus, it doubles as an FM radio.
