iPhone 17 launch means these iPhones are now discontinued — here's what's going away

The iPhone 17 series has been revealed, and pre-orders are set to open up this Friday (September 12). If one of the new phones isn't to your liking, there are still older iPhone models available. However, the aftermath of the Awe Dropping event does mean Apple has discontinued a few of them.
Apple is a creature of habit, and some of you may have already figured out what the current Apple Store lineup actually looks like. But for those that don't, here's a rundown on which older iPhones are still available — and which models have been officially discontinued.
Which older iPhones are still available?
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are still around, as expected. Apple likes keeping the previous generation around for another year and slashes the price by $100 in the process. This year is no different, and means you can pick up the iPhone 16 for a newly reduced price of $699.
The caveat is that the iPhone 16 is only available with 128GB of storage. If you want to increase your free space to 256GB, you'll either have to buy an iPhone 17 or the iPhone 16 Plus. The larger phone starts at $799 for a 128GB model, with the price increasing to $899 if you pick 256GB.
The iPhone 16e is also still on sale, which isn't that surprising considering it was released back in March. Everything about that phone has stayed the same, with the price starting at the same $599 as before. That's your low cost option from Apple, with access to all the best Apple Intelligence features, but with some compromises like the notched screen and solo rear camera lens.
Which iPhones have been discontinued?
While Apple usually keeps non-Pro iPhones around for two years, the same can't be said about the Pro options. Apple only sells one set of Pros at a time, and this means that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have been removed from the Apple Store.
Both those phones do still seem to be available at third party retailers and carriers, including the likes of AT&T, Best Buy and others. However, since Apple has officially discontinued those phones, the number of available phones will start to dwindle as time goes on. So if you planned on picking one of them up, you may want to pull the trigger sooner rather than later.

Similarly, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have now hit their 2nd birthday and have been pulled from sale at Apple retail. Again, both devices are still available from third party retailers, but since Apple has officially ended their run, stock will start to dry up.
I suspect they won't disappear quite as quickly as iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, so you don't need to rush into a decision. Just be aware that the clock is ticking.
Has Apple discontinued anything else?
The Awe Dropping event wasn't just about iPhones, and there were plenty of new products being revealed — which inevitably means that the older models are discontinued.
Case in point, the whole new Apple Watch line-up: consisting of Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3 and the Apple Watch SE 3. Unsurprisingly this means that Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Apple Watch SE 2 have all been pulled from the Apple Store in favor of their newer compatriots.
The older models are still available at third party retailers, but as is the case with the newly-discontinued iPhones, their availability will only get more limited as time goes on.
The same is true for the AirPods Pro 2, now that the AirPods Pro 3 are coming onto the scene.
As good as those earbuds are, Apple still wants to push people into the newest models — so time is running out for AirPods Pro 2. There is still some time before they disappear forever, but I wouldn't count on them sticking around long term.
