With a starting price of just $384.60 for a twin (was $641), the Bear Original would make an excellent dorm room mattress, especially as it comes with everything you need for a comfortable night's sleep. Bear Original Mattress: was from $641 now from $417 at Bear
Using the code TOMS40 at the checkout takes Bear's general access sale from 35% off to a huge 40% off. That brings the price of a queen Bear Original down to just $556 from $844. Plus, you'll get a bedding bundle worth up to $320 thrown in for free. That includes two pillows, a sheet set and mattress protector. That's the best price you'll ever get on this mattress. Like the best memory foam mattresses, the Original is an all-foam medium-firm mattress with excellent pressure relief. After testing it, we found the Original to be comfortable for most sleeping positions. It isolates motion well, so is a great option for restless bed sharers. It's also sturdy around the perimeter, which means you can safely sit on and sleep right up to the bed's edge. But be warned, it can sleep a little hot. Still, if you're after a decent allrounder at a budget friendly price, this is an excellent mattress deal.

Why you should consider the Bear Original mattress

Bear mattress sales typically range between 30% and 35% off. While Bear's general access sale is 35% off, using the code TOMS40 at checkout unlocks a hefty 40% off discount. That's the same discount we're expecting to see in Black Friday, so it's worth buying now.

What is new for Labor Day, however, is the free bedding bundle you'll get with every mattress purchase. While Bear mattresses often come with free pillows, this time you'll get an entire free bedding bundle. That means up to two free pillows, a bed sheet set and mattress protector worth up to $500. That's incredible value for money.

The Bear Original is a medium-firm memory foam mattress, and we found it to be comfortable for side, back and stomach sleeping. You won't get the typical 'hug' of a memory foam mattress with the Original, but you can expect plenty of pressure relief.

The top layers of memory foam dampen movement, making it a great option for couples. The sides of the bed are sturdy, so you can sleep right up to the edge. However, our lead tester found that the Original did trap a bit of heat.

If you're a hot sleeper and you don't have the budget to buy the Bear Elite Hybrid, our top cooling mattress, we'd recommend upgrading the Original to include the Celliant cooling cover for an extra $180 for a queen.
