If you're hoping to slot in a Prime Video movie night at some point this week, and you're planning to rely on the Prime Video top 10 list for recommendations, you can't necessarily guarantee you'll stumble onto something that's watchlist-worthy.

A movie can be trending on any of the best streaming services and still be worth skipping; popular doesn't automatically mean "good." That's precisely why I keep such a close eye on the Prime Video top 10 movies list.

Best movies in the Prime Video top 10

'Shrek' (2001)

There are several family movies in Prime Video's top 10 right now, but I think it's fair to say that none of them will ever manage to have the enduring appeal of DreamWorks Animation's "Shrek" (or "Shrek 2," which is also in the streamer's charts).

If you've never seen this animated phenomenon before, "Shrek" follows the titular green ogre (voiced by Mike Myers) on a different kind of fairy tale quest. When his solitary life is shattered by the arrival of banished fairy tale characters, Shrek sets off on a quest to win back his home, accompanied by his new sidekick, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) in tow. His mission? To rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) so he can get the deed to his swamp back from the villainous Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow).

'Sinners' (2025)

What new thing can I say about "Sinners" at this point? Ryan Coogler's gripping action-horror effort has been a mainstay of Prime Video's charts for ages now, it was one of the buzziest and best movies of 2025, and it's just bagged four wins at the 2026 Oscars. If you love movies, you've almost certainly seen it before, but if you haven't (or are thinking about rewatching in the wake of its wins), this is the best movie in the top 10, bar none.

Acclaimed by critics and fellow moviegoers alike, "Sinners" throws us in with twin brothers, Smoke and Stack (both played by Michael B. Jordan, roles which earned Jordan his Best Actor statue on Sunday evening). Together, the pair head back to their hometown in an effort to start a new venture and escape their troubled past... only to encounter that there's a more powerful, blood-sucking evil waiting to welcome them back.

'The Bluff' (2026)

Prime Video subscribers must have been patiently waiting for another big pirate adventure, as "The Bluff" is still Prime Video's top watch, weeks after its original debut on the platform. We don't really see many pirate movies on our screens these days, and I wonder whether that's why this bloody action movie has captured viewers' attention quite so much.

If you've not watched it yet, "The Bluff" introduces us to Ercell (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), a former pirate who is forced to defend all that she holds dear when her past comes calling. She might have found peace settled in the Cayman Islands with her husband, son, and sister-in-law. When her former captain, Connor (Karl Urban), shows up seeking revenge, her world is turned upside down, and she's thrust into a fight for survival that drags her back into that same deadly world she tried to leave behind.
