Netflix already offers a strong library of movies and TV shows, but when I’m combing through the new additions to the streaming service, I’m always looking out for the “Netflix Original” branding most of all. Fortunately, the platform typically releases exclusive content at an impressive clip.
The week ahead is certainly no different; Netflix is offering subscribers plenty of new movies and shows that you can’t stream anywhere else. This week's highlights include a Valentine’s Day special for the easy-watching “Is It Cake?” baking reality series, as well as the latest season of legal drama “The Lincoln Lawyer.” Oh, and I can’t overlook a new documentary feature that looks perfect for fans of “The Queen’s Gambit.”
So, let's dive into my top picks. These are the new Netflix exclusive movies and shows you’ll want on your radar over the coming days.
‘Is It Cake? Valentines’
Netflix’s popular reality baking show is back for a 45-minute Valentine’s Day special. If you’ve yet to sample the frosting-covered delights of “Is It Cake?”, the setup is pretty simple and a whole lot of fun. Bakers are tasked with creating confectionery that resembles everyday objects, before a panel of judges has to guess which object in a lineup is actually the cake. Naturally, the guessing game is followed by an uber-satisfying knife-cut moment.
As you can probably guess, “Is It Cake? Valentines” is the same popular format given a Cupid-themed makeover. Hosted by “Saturday Night Live’s” Mikey Day, this special doesn’t look to shake up the mixture, but Netflix has “Is It Cake?” down to an exact science at this point, so why fix what isn’t broken? Fans of the show will love this seasonally themed episode.

‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ season 4
“The Lincoln Lawyer” is a Netflix show that appears to be just trucking along in the background. It’s certainly not got the mainstream popularity of a “Bridgerton” or “Stranger Things,” but heading into its fourth season, it’s quite clear that it’s managed to find itself a dedicated audience among the streaming services sizeable subscriber base. Heck, it’s already been renewed for a fifth season, so this won’t be the Lincoln Lawyers' final case.

Following the dramatic events of the third season finale, Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) is back, and this time he’s sitting on the other side of the table. Now he’s the client, with his reputation on the line as he faces trial. To prove his innocence, he’s going to need the support of his entire legal team because this courtroom battle will be intense. Showrunners, Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez, are promising “‘The Lincoln Lawyer’s’ signature twists, along with the unique blend of suspense, humor and heart our fans love" in season 4.

‘Queen of Chess’
Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit” remains one of the platform’s most decorated originals, and this new documentary might just tap into the same underdog spirit. To be clear, “Queen of Chess” isn’t a follow-up feature; it chronicles the rise of Hungarian chess prodigy Judit Polgár. It’s also directed by Rory Kennedy, daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy.
In 1989, Polgár broke new ground at just 12 years old, becoming the youngest player to place in the top 100 ranking. She was fixated on beating the world champion at the time, Garry Kasparov. To reach this lofty goal, she had to break down gender barriers, facing off against arrogant male players who believed that a woman could never be a chess master.
Polgár was undeterred, and over more than a decade, she was fully committed to becoming one of history’s finest players. “Queen of Chess” looks to celebrate her determination, conviction and impressive skill.
