3 best new to Netflix movies you should stream this weekend (July 17-19)

It's a little wild to realize we’re already past the halfway mark of July, which means more than half of 2026 has officially slipped by, a thought that definitely sparks a bit of existential dread. But instead of stressing over the rapid march of time, let’s focus on a much better distraction: Netflix. As the world’s leading streaming giant, its library is constantly rotating, and the arrival of the weekend has brought a fresh batch of movies to add to your watchlist.
If you’re gearing up for a weekend movie night but are stuck staring at the endless scroll, don't worry, I’ve put together a few recommendations to save you the hassle. That includes the highly anticipated, feature-length final chapter of a beloved romance, a legendary dystopian survival epic, and an indie coming-of-age comedy set in the 2010s music scene. So, here are three new Netflix movies you won't want to miss.
‘Heartstopper Forever’
The biggest release this week has to be “Heartstopper Forever,” which serves as thefeature-length finale to Netflix’s beloved, ultra-sweet coming-of-age series. Rather than producing a traditional fourth season, the creators opted to wrap up the story of Nick and Charlie with a single, movie-length chapter. It’s designed specifically to serve as a love letter to the fans who have followed the characters across three seasons of TV, pulling its inspiration directly from the final chapters of the original graphic novel universe.
“Heartstopper Forever” picks up after the events of season 3, with Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) closer than ever as they begin planning for the future. As Nick prepares to leave for university and Charlie settles into life at school, the prospect of a long distance relationship puts new pressure on their romance. While they try to stay connected, doubts and difficult decisions test their bond. At the same time, their friends face major changes in their own relationships and personal lives.

‘The Hunger Games’
It’s perfect timing that Netflix added every “Hunger Games” movie with “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” hitting theaters in just a few months (in November, if you were wondering). While I’d recommend a movie marathon to stream them all, if I had to pick just one, it would be the first “Hunger Games” for anyone who somehow hasn’t experienced the franchise yet. It’s a landmark dystopian action-adventure that defined a generation of YA cinema.
Set in the nation of Panem, “The Hunger Games” follows 16 year old Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) after she volunteers to take her younger sister Prim’s (Willow Shields) place in the annual Hunger Games, a televised competition where 24 teenagers from the country’s districts must fight until only one remains. Alongside fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), Katniss is thrust into a dangerous arena filled with deadly traps and highly trained opponents.

‘Mile End Kicks’
I’ll always use this opportunity to highlight indie films, especially when they’re good. “Mile End Kicks” is a coming-of-age romantic comedy that follows the struggles of young creatives trying to find their footing. The film is set in 2011, a landmark year for indie rock and music blogging, with director Chandler Levack basing much of the screenplay on her own experiences as a 20-something aspiring music critic in Canada. It’s a compassionate, stylish, and humorous little film.
“Mile End Kicks” follows 24-year-old Grace Pine (Barbie Ferreira), an aspiring music critic who moves from Toronto to Montreal in the summer of 2011 hoping to write a book about Alanis Morissette’s iconic album Jagged Little Pill. Instead, she becomes immersed in the city’s indie music scene after meeting members of the up and coming band Bone Patrol. As Grace grows closer to two of the musicians, Archie (Devon Bostick) and Chevy (Stanley Simons), she also takes on a role as the band’s publicist.

Before joining Tom’s Guide, Alix honed her skills as a staff writer with outlets like Screen Rant and Bough Digital, where she discovered her love for the entertainment industry.
She heads to the cinema every week as a tradition, no matter what’s showing. For her, movies aren’t just entertainment — they’re a ritual, a comfort, and a constant source of inspiration. When she’s not at her desk or at the cinema, you’ll probably find her deep into a horror video game on her PC.
