Proton VPN goes big with its Black Friday deal – obliterating NordVPN's in the process

Black Friday 2025 is looming, and would you look at that – almost every one of the best VPNs has slashed its prices. In a turn up for the books, though, Proton VPN has launched one of the very best Black Friday VPN deals of 2025.

Proton VPN isn't known for offering hefty discounts, but this year, the privacy-focused provider has dropped the price of its two-year plan to just $2.49 per month. This is more than $1 cheaper per month than usual, and it's the lowest price we've ever seen Proton VPN go for. It's $0.50 per month cheaper than last Black Friday!

The deal also makes Proton VPN cheaper than NordVPN and ExpressVPN, and addresses one of the biggest criticisms we discuss in our Proton VPN review – its relatively high price compared to its rivals.

The lowest price we've seen all year

At 75% off, a two-year Proton VPN costs $2.49 per month ($59.76 up front). We've not seen Proton VPN at this price all year and it trumps its Black Friday 2024 deal.

As with all VPN subscriptions, the two-year plan always works out as the best monthly value – although you do pay more up front.

Proton VPN's two-year deal costs $2.49 per month, the one-year deal costs $3.99 per month ($47.88 up front), and a one-month plan costs $9.99.

One of Proton VPN's biggest downsides is its regular price. It's not overly expensive but will set you back more per month than NordVPN and Surfshark.

Surfshark is still the best cheap VPN out there and you can grab a Surfshark One plan for $2.19 per month. But Proton VPN is now cheaper than NordVPN – arguably its most direct competitor – with the latter coming in at $2.99 per month this Black Friday.

Both Proton VPN's one and two-year deals come with a 30-day money back guarantee, so you can try it out risk free. If you decide to continue with your subscription, it's worth noting that Proton VPN renews at $79.95 every 12 months.

This is by no means the largest VPN auto-renewal price hike but it's still a hike. To avoid this when your subscription ends, ensure auto-renewal is turned off, then cancel your plan and re-subscribe at the original price.

Bang for your buck

There's just one tier of Proton VPN, so you'll unlock every feature it offers. Proton VPN's focus is privacy but it's also one of the fastest VPNs we've tested, recording speeds of over 1,000 Mbps in our testing. As long as your internet can handle it, Proton VPN won't slow you down and means it's also one of the best streaming VPNs.

Although it hasn't yet adopted post-quantum encryption, your data is protected by rock-solid AES-256 encryption, along with a quality kill switch and audited no-logs policy.

There's split tunneling, P2P support, threat protection, and Secure Core servers – which route your VPN traffic through two secure servers rather than one. Proton VPN leads the way when it comes to anti-censorship features and boasts its own unique obfuscating protocol known as Stealth.

Its apps aren't too complicated to use and have undergone a pleasant UI redesign. They're available on all major platforms and you'll have a whopping 16,000 VPN servers to choose from. Up to 10 devices can be protected on one plan, which will be enough for most households. There's even a free plan – Proton VPN Free – which we rate as one of the best free VPNs.
