You can get an iPhone 16e for just $199 — there's a catch, but it's probably still worth it
Save $400 on one of Apple's best cheap phones
Picking up a brand-new iPhone can be an expensive endeavor, especially if you're getting one of the latest models like the iPhone 17 or iPhone 17 Pro. But there are always cheaper options if you know where to look, and this iPhone 16e deal is one deal you can't afford to ignore.
If you head over to Straight Talk right now, you can pick up the iPhone 16e for as little as $199 — but there is a catch. You'll need to activate a new line on a Silver Unlimited plan (or higher) to get the full savings. Otherwise, you'll have to pay $349 for the phone itself.
Pick up the iPhone 16e with $400 off the original price at Straight Talk — a Verizon-owned MVNO. All you have to do to get the full discount is activate a new line on a Silver Unlimited plan or higher. Those start at $45 per month for a 30-day plan or $360 for the year.
The biggest issue we had with the iPhone 16e when it was released was the price tag. Considering this was the closest thing we had to an iPhone SE 4, and that the best cheap phones cost less than $500 at the time, the $599 price tag was a lot to take in. Knock that price down a few hundred dollars, and suddenly the 16e is a bargain you can't afford to miss.
The iPhone 16e has all the best features of a flagship iPhone, without the high price tags. That means you get the full 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, satellite connectivity, an Action Button and the entire suite of Apple Intelligence features. Apple may not have the most robust set of features right now, but with the Gemini-powered Siri rumored to be launching at WWDC 2026, things are about to get a whole lot more interesting.
Other notable features include the 48MP fusion camera, which offers 2x optical-quality zoom, and a strong battery life. Our testing showed the iPhone 16e could last 12 hours and 41 minutes, which is more than the standard iPhone 16 and over three hours longer than the iPhone SE (2022).
Naturally, it can do everything other iPhones can do, with access to the App Store, iMessage, FaceTime and so on.
The iPhone 16e may have been surpassed by the iPhone 17e earlier this year, but that doesn't mean it isn't an excellent phone. In fact, the physical differences between the 16e and 17e are rather minimal, limited to smaller things like a newer A19 chipset and MagSafe support. If you're willing to go without those upgrades, you have an opportunity to save yourself a bunch of cash.
