Why you can trust Tom's Guide
There is something inherently charming and sophisticated about a woven blanket. It looks so chic slung over the back of your couch or on the corner of your bed. Looks aside, woven blankets are cozy, but some, like the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket, take the 'coziness' of this type of blanket to a new level.
Most of the best weighted blankets are single pieces of fabric filled with pellets or glass beads, but not the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket. It’s entirely comprised of 100% organic cotton — no pellets, no harmful chemicals — just fabric.
Beyond look and materials, this blanket is designed to help you sleep better, and decrease any anxiety and stress. The weight of the blanket is said to help produce serotonin and reduce cortisol, which can help make you feel happier and less stressed. Research has shown that weighted blankets can even help improve sleep quality, making them a great option if you've invested in one of the best mattresses but still aren't getting the rest you need.
We wanted to see if all that was true, so we tested the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket. Keep reading to discover if this woven weighted blanket excelled and how it impacted our reviewer’s sleep and mood.
Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket: Review in brief
The Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket is a great choice for those looking for a stylish weighted blanket made of high-quality, non-toxic materials. This woven weighted blanket is comprised of only 100% organic cotton and is sold in four different weights: 10, 15, 20, and 25lbs.
Bearaby explains that their weighted blanket "activates the effects of Deep Touch Pressure (DTP)." DTP can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which allows us to feel calm and relaxed, and the brand says this blanket can help you relax and feel calmer, sleep better, and reduce anxiety. Bearaby even conducted an internal customer survey in which 85% of participants said they slept better after using its Cotton Weighted Blanket.
Thanks to the organic cotton material and looped design, this blanket is breathable, making it a good choice for those who sleep hot or want something to curl under during the warmer months. Customers can choose from nine color options on the Bearaby website, and can even machine-wash and tumble dry the blanket (more on the specific care instructions below).

At the time of writing, reviews on the Bearaby site, of which there are over 2,700, give a total score of just under 5 stars, though this is only represented by a graphic so it's unclear if it's a 4.8 or 4.9 rating. On Amazon, it has a 4.5-star rating from over 300 reviews. From this, we can surmise that the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket overall has at least a 4.5 or higher star rating.
When we examined the lowest star ratings, it seemed like most reviewers ordered a weight that was too heavy or too light for them or just discovered that they’re not weighted blanket people. Some noted that the blanket slipped off when they moved or that it wasn’t as warm as they would’ve liked.
These are not significant drawbacks, especially when you consider that most of the reviews are overwhelmingly in favor of the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket. Reviewers claim that the blanket helped them to sleep better and longer at night. Many even mention that they’ve bought a few weighted blankets from Bearaby to use in different areas of their house.
Overall, the average customer rating matches our rating for this blanket: 4.5/5 stars.
Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket: Price
Bearaby sells the Cotton Weighted Blanket in four different weights/sizes, and even for the smallest, this is not a cheap weighted blanket. Prices start at $199 for the 10lb weight, and the larger the weight, the more you'll pay, with the 25lb blanket costing $299.
- 10 lbs: $199
- 15 lbs: $249
- 20 lbs: $279
- 25 lbs: $299
If for some reason the blanket is not heavy enough or too heavy, you have 30 days to return or exchange your blanket; there's also a 1-year warranty. While exchanges are free, there's a $19.99 processing fee for returns.
While the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket is currently at full price, you can expect to see discounts during the year.
For example, there was 10% off MSRP during Cyber Week sales and for Black Friday in 2024. At the time of writing this review, you can also save 10% if you bundle two Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blankets. But it's worth noting that it appears you have to do this directly from the deal hub on the Bearaby site.
There are also several bundles pairing this blanket with other Bearaby products, where you'll also get 10% off the total price.
Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket: from $199 at Bearaby
This premium weighted blanket is made entirely from organic cotton, and it's breathable, super soft and lovely to look at. Nine colors and four weights mean there's a good chance you'll find the just-right option for you, and unlike many weighted blankets the Bearaby can be machine-washed and tumble-dried. It's not often discounted but you may see 10% off during major sales events.
Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket: Sizes, Weights
When picking the weight and size of your Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket, the brand recommends that buyers choose one that is 10% of their body weight. To help you make the best choice, Bearaby has a weighted blanket calculator that allows you to input your weight so that it can tell you which blanket to choose.
The size of the blanket also increases with the weight, with the 25lb option measuring about four by six feet.
Don’t expect the blanket to cover your entire bed, though. For instance, our reviewer tested the 15lb blanket, and it only covered about half of her king-size bed. Bearaby advises that the blankets be used for a single person so they can experience the full benefits of Deep Touch Pressure (however it also sells a queen weighted blanket and a king weighted blanket if you want to cover the whole bed).
The Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket comes in the following sizes:
- 10 lbs: (40 x 64 inches)
- 15 lbs: (40 x 72 inches)
- 20 lbs: (45 x 72 inches)
- 25 lbs: (48 x 72 inches)
Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket: Design & materials
What makes this blanket stand out is the woven design, which is not very common among weighted blankets. The 100% GOTS-Certified organic cotton cover is available in nine different colors and is incredibly soft, thanks to the brand pre-washing the fabric. In fact, the material feels and looks like a cotton T-shirt or jersey sheets.
Perhaps our favorite thing about the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket is that the only thing giving it weight is sustainable fabric, which means it’s not filled with glass beads or pellets, or anything else that could be harmful, or potentially fall out. In fact, the blanket itself is OEKO-TEX 100 and Fairtrade International certified, which can give you peace of mind that you’re putting safe materials, that have been sourced ethically, on your body.
The loops that make up the weaving aren’t too tight, but they’re not considerably loose either. You will see space between the loops when moving it onto your body, but the material bounces back together when left in place.
The Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket is machine washable on cold water, specifically a delicate or permanent-press cycle and ideally, not in a top-loading washing or drying machine. Bearaby suggests using a mild or eco-friendly detergent and to avoid fabric softeners and bleach.
While you can tumble dry on low, it may take a few cycles for the blanket to fully dry. Bearaby states that you should never hang the blanket to dry or it’ll stretch out the loops.
Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket: Performance
The look and feel of the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket made a great first impression on our reviewer, so she was excited to see if it could help her sleep better and decrease her anxiety.
During the day, our reviewer used the blanket on her couch. Generally, she’d start by placing the weighted blanket on her legs and after about 10 minutes, felt so soothed and comfortable that she’d lay down and pull the blanket up to her chest. It made her feel calm, cozy, and relaxed.
When it came to sleeping with the 15lb Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket, it took our reviewer a few days to adapt, as she does not typically use a weighted blanket to sleep.
To get used to the blanket, she placed it on her legs for a couple of nights and then pulled it up to her shoulders the remaining time of the testing period. By the end, she found that she woke up less during the night and didn’t move as often as she normally does.
The Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket is made of organic cotton and has loops, so it’s not going to be the most heat retaining blanket. We tested it during a particularly warm month in March, so lying with the blanket on the couch was perfect. We never overheated, just felt comfortable. Unfortunately, the blanket wouldn’t be warm enough to use on its own during the coldest seasons of the year.
As for testing it on the bed, we placed it on top of a duvet filled with an all-seasons comforter. Due to the warm nights during testing, our reviewer did get slightly warm — though not hot — at night when sleeping this way.
In fact, it’s likely that the comforter caused her to warm at night rather than the weighted blanket, though adding another blanket atop the comforter might not have helped. Eventually, she turned on the fan at night which kept her cool. If it had been particularly cold during testing, this probably wouldn’t have been an issue.
Overall, the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket creates a relaxed feeling no matter if you use it on the couch or at bedtime.
Should you buy the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket?
Most potential buyers are going to be drawn to the look of the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket and the fact that it’s made of 100% organic cotton. However, they might be a little hesitant due to the price. We get it — a weighted blanket that starts at almost $200 is a big buy. Many customers who wrote reviews said the same thing; however, like us, they saw the value of this blanket once it arrived.
If you’re a weighted blanket kind of person, the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket is super stylish and breathable, ensuring a chilled couch session and a deep sleep at night.
Buy the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket if...
✅ You want options: The Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket comes in four weights options and nine different colors, so there'll likely be something to meet your specific needs and tastes.
✅ You're battling anxiety: The Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket is designed to help reduce your anxiety and stress, and to aid you in relaxing, and we felt it delivered on that front, as well as improving our reviewer's sleep patterns, too.
✅ You want something easy to clean: The Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket is machine-washable and can be tumble dried, which made it a win for us.
Don't buy the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket if...
❌ You need something to keep you warm: While it would perform well for most of the year, we did feel that it was unlikely to keep you exceptionally warm in the coldest weather.
❌ You think you might need to return it: The most unfortunate aspect of the Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket is that returning one will invoke a fee. This seems like a big oversight on the part of Bearaby, considering the high price tag.
