Apart from being a horrific crime and nightmare situation for anybody to find themselves in, it also had every ingredient needed to create a media tsunami. And that was before Chloe Ayling escaped, her captor was caught and put on trial in Italy. The situation then developed an unstoppable momentum of its own.
Did justice run its course? The answer was almost lost in the backlash that Ayling faced when she returned to Britain and some began to doubt the veracity of her story. A situation possibly not advanced by the model deciding to appear on Celebrity Big Brother so he public could see the 'real' her.

Season 01 Episode 01: "The Kidnapping" - In summer 2017, Chloe Ayling is kidnapped in Italy by an international criminal gang known as Black Death.
A young ambitious model from south London, Chloe is set on making her way in the glamour industry and is less than a year into her rapidly growing career when her dream job turns into a nightmare. Secure in the knowledge her job has been vetted, and therefore unconcerned about travelling solo, she turns up for what she believes to be a photoshoot in Milan. But there, Chloe is grabbed from behind, drugged, bundled into a bag and driven to a remote farmhouse.
As Chloe awakes, she finds herself handcuffed to a chest of drawers. Soon, her captor emerges and asks whether she remembers him from Paris. She does - he was Andre, the photographer who booked her for a previous job that was cancelled at the last minute due to a terror attack in Paris. But he tells Chloe that he is not a photographer and not called Andre. He says he is known as ‘MD’.
Surprisingly calm, Chloe is able process this information without reacting emotionally whilst MD questions why she’s not screaming. In a self-reflective moment, Chloe questions whether her life-long ability to put her feelings to one side and look at a situation dispassionately may have worked in her favour in captivity. She hopes that this all might end quickly if she can try to keep ‘MD’ on side.
Back in the UK, Chloe’s agent, Phil, receives an email from Black Death which turns his world upside down. Chloe is due to be sold as a sex slave on the dark web in six days… unless Phil can raise enough money to stop the auction. He realises that his client is in grave danger and that he needs to work quickly to save her. Within 24 hours, both the UK and Italian police begin searching for Chloe. With no real clues or evidence to go on, and an auction deadline rapidly approaching, they know they are in a race against time.
Locked in the farmhouse, MD offers Chloe some food whilst telling her he uses poison most frequently when he has to kill people. She knows she’s dealing with a volatile man. She realises she’s going to have to do whatever it takes to escape - but how?
S01 E02: "The Escape" - Trapped inside a remote farmhouse, Chloe learns that she’s been kidnapped by Black Death and that she’s going to be sold at auction in just five days' time with a starting bid of $300,000, unless someone else comes up with the money. Despite this, Chloe remains calm, reasoning that she is not able to change her situation and just needs to wait. Her captor, MD, sends a renewed demand to her agent, Phil, and Chloe hopes he will find a way to rescue her.
When Phil, panicking, replies with a single word, ‘received’, she feels utterly alone. What Chloe cannot know is that the police are about to take control of Phil’s email account. The subsequent back and forth only antagonises MD, which leaves Chloe feeling very vulnerable, unsure of what will happen next. She realises only she can get herself out of this.
Meanwhile, the British and Italian authorities are working together to try to find where Chloe is being held captive, before the impending auction takes place. They are able to piece together evidence that links the location of the crime to a Polish national. They have a face but no name. Meanwhile, cyber experts investigating Black Death try to trace the dark website where Chloe is set to be sold - but to no avail. Time is running out.
S01 E03: "The Backlash" - Glamour model and kidnapping victim Chloe Ayling continues to look back at her terrifying ordeal orchestrated by Black Death. Now safely under the protection of the Italian authorities, she must give evidence in court against the man who enabled her escape from the international sex-trafficking gang – Lukasz Herba. But as the hearing starts and the evidence is laid out, a different picture begins to emerge of this particular suspect.
Dazed from the shock of this discovery, Chloe returns home to the UK, finally free of the spectre of a gang she believed could continue to threaten her life. Whilst now free from one unimaginable ordeal, she’s immediately plunged into another as the Italian courts publicly release details of the case and the ongoing investigation to the world’s press. What she hoped to bury as an embarrassing nightmare soon ignites the interest of the global media. Now they know her name and discover where she lives.
