My favorite Prime Video top 10 movie is a must-watch for ‘John Wick’ fans — and it’s one of the best revenge thrillers ever

I’ve found myself largely unimpressed with the movies making a splash on Prime Video so far in 2026. The streaming service’s top 10 most-watched list has been largely dominated by movies I would at best weakly recommend, but that’s all changed this week because the 2022 Finnish action-thriller “Sisu” has arrived on the platform and is starting to climb the charts.

If you’re a fan of the “John Wick” franchise (and who isn’t a fan of “John Wick”), you’re doing yourself a major disservice by not watching “Sisu.” This bloody, fast-paced revenge flick offers a similar brand of intense action and a protagonist who acts as an unstoppable force. The protagonist even has his own nickname that strikes fear into his enemies, Koshchei (which translates as “The Immortal”). I can’t overstate how much Wick fans should watch it.

Fortunately, it seems plenty of Prime Video subscribers haven’t needed the likes of me to tell them to stream “Sisu,” as it’s already cracked the top 10 list. It currently ranks at No. 7. That’s a good start, but I’m hoping it’ll climb higher in the coming days. It’s certainly an infinitely more exciting and engaging watch than the current No. 1 pick, “Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.”

If you’re looking to add a dose of action-thriller intensity to your midweek watchlist, look no further than “Sisu.” It grips right out of the gate and only gets more explosive from there. Here's why you need to watch it right now.

What is ‘Sisu’ about?

Set in the final days of World War II, as the invading German forces retreat from Finland, leaving a trail of destruction and death in their wake, Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tommila) is a gold prospector in the wilderness of Lapland who discovers a large quantity of valuable nuggets.

Down the road, Aatami crosses paths with a retreating platoon of German soldiers, and they make the foolish decision to try to steal his saddle bags bulging with gold. But what they soon learn is that Aatami is no simple miner. He’s a legendary, lethal former commando.

Pursued across scorched earth by Obersturmführer Bruno Helldorf (Aksel Hennie) and his men, Aatami, nicknamed Koshchei (“The Immortal”), wages a campaign of terror to protect his gold and dish out some bloody revenge.

‘Sisu’ is a must-watch on Prime Video this week

“Sisu” is intense pretty much from the get-go. It takes around 15 minutes for the first body to fall, and this wince-inducing death is just a taster of the blood-soaked carnage to come. Aatami is a fantastic action-thriller hero. He may be stoic throughout, but you’ll immediately find yourself rooting for him, and much like Mr. Wick, he’s got great affection for his canine companion.

One of the movie’s biggest strengths is its expert pacing. Running a lean 90 minutes long, “Sisu” seldom lets up. It’s one intense action sequence after another, and it does a wonderful job of consistently raising the stakes. Just when you think Aatami is hopelessly outnumbered and outgunned, he finds a creative way to turn the tables on his enemies. I still recall watching it for the first time and practically whooping along in sheer delight at each victory.

The World War II setting is another strength. It explores a part of the global conflict not often portrayed on screen. I’ve seen “Sisu” described as “‘John Wick’ mets ‘Inglourious Basterds’,” and that’s certainly an apt summary. Much like Tarantino’s WWII epic, “Sisu” reveals in carnage, and doesn’t expect viewers to feel an ounce of sympathy for Aatami’s victims.

It’s a masterful constructued action-thriller, with a badass protagonist, a well-realized historical setting, and a thrilling sense of escalation. “Sisu” is the real deal, and I’m not alone in that opinion. On review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, the movie holds an impressive 94% score, enough for a “Certified Fresh” seal of approval. Viewers are of a similar mind, rating it a strong 88%.

The site’s “Critics Consensus” reads, “Narratively lean as it is deliriously gory, Sisu is an inspired pastiche that gives bloody satisfaction to action aficionados.” And the good news is there’s an equally well-received sequel to enjoy afterwards, “Sisu: Road to Revenge.” Unfortunately, to watch the follow-up, you’ll need to cough up a rental fee, but by most critics' accounts, it’s worth the price of admission. The two movies make for a great double bill.

If watching a one-man army wage war across the stunning Finnish landscape is too intense for you, here’s a guide to the other movies in the Prime Video top 10 to watch first. Or you can check out the full Prime Video slate for February 2026, packed with great movies and bingable TV shows.
