On Wednesday, April 15, Prime Video's newest original comedy movie premiered on the streaming service. This is "Balls Up," a new R-rated caper from Peter Farrelly ("Green Book," "Dumb and Dumber"), and within days of its release, this "raunchy, over-the-top comedy" (as Amazon pitches it) has become the streamer's latest No. 1 watch — but if you're yet to watch it, you might want to think twice.
Why? Well, that's because "Balls Up" hasn't exactly been well-received, either by critics or other viewers. At the time of writing, the movie has a measly 28% rating from reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes, with an even lower 26% from fellow film fans. Some of the worst reactions brand it either a "just another streaming-era time-filler," or just a flat-out "disaster."
Given that unenviable reception, I decided to pull together a quick collection of three comedy movies on Prime Video that are more deserving of your time than "Balls Up." You can find my three picks below.

'Deep Cover' (2025)
If you ask me, "Deep Cover" was one of the best Prime Video original movies to hit our screens in 2025. If this is the first time you're hearing about it, it revolves around an improv teacher (Kat, played by Bryce Dallas Howard) and her two students (Orlando Bloom, "Ted Lasso" star Nick Mohammed) who are recruited for a potentially deadly op by an undercover cop (Sean Bean). He wants them to infiltrate London's criminal underworld by using their improv skills to pretend to be dangerous criminals. As you might expect, that gig quickly spirals out of control, and chaos ensues.
"Deep Cover" is an action/crime-comedy that boasts a sharp script, strong performances, and plenty of laughs — what more could you want?

'Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping' (2016)
"Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping" is an R-rated comedy movie headlined by The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone) that brings us up close and personal with Conner4Real (Andy Samberg). Conner is a hugely popular soloist who finds himself having a crisis of popularity when his sophomore album flops, and this mockumentary captures all the chaos as his world starts crashing down.

It's dumb, features a ton of cameos from major musicians and comedy icons, and it's still side-splitting fun a decade on from its original release. Just know that you'll need to stream it soon: "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping" is leaving Prime Video at the end of April.

'The Naked Gun' (2025)
If it's comedy you want, then you owe it to yourself to stream what I'd happily call the single funniest film I watched last year: Akiva Schaffer's legacy sequel to "The Naked Gun." I've written about the movie at Tom's Guide already — including when "The Naked Gun" first came to Prime Video back in January — and in my eyes, it lives up to the original trilogy with Leslie Nielsen. It serves up jokes and gags so frequently that, even if one doesn't land, you'll be in fits of laughter again within seconds.
In "The Naked Gun," we follow Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson), who has followed in his father's footsteps and become a Police Squad officer, just like his old man. After his reckless policing lands him in hot water, Drebin finds himself investigating a mysterious murder case and, ultimately, trying to save Police Squad (and the world). It's ridiculous, hilarious fun.

When he’s not watching the next must-see movie or show, he’s probably still in front of a screen playing massive RPGs, reading, spending a fortune on TCGs, or watching the NFL.
