‘Emily in Paris’ season 5 teaser trailer made me roll my eyes but I’ll be binge-watching anyway

Home sweet Rome! Netflix just dropped the first teaser trailer for "Emily in Paris" season 5, and our favorite marketing maven is at it again, this time taking her messily glamorous life to the capital city of Italy. The new season sends Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) to Rome, Venice, and yes, eventually back to Paris, because let’s be honest: She can’t stay away for long.

"Emily in Paris" season 5 hits Netflix on December 18. I’ll roll my eyes; I’ll cringe; I’ll watch every single episode. Some habits, like Emily’s ludicrous outfits, are impossible to quit.

The teaser, with the tagline “Hearts will Rome farther than ever before,” offers everything you’d expect. There’s Emily gliding through the canals of Venice, zipping past ruins on a scooter, sipping espresso in sunlit piazzas and showing up to parties so glitzy they could double as jewelry commercials.

Emily’s new Italian boyfriend Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) is very much in the picture, and the two look like they’re starring in a campaign to make Rome steal the nickname "City of Love" from Paris. A quick glimpse shows her with her work team mid-crisis, because naturally, there’s always a client who needs soothing.

Creator Darren Star says the show will make its way back to Paris later in the season, but for now, we’re soaking in the Roman sunlight (and the chaos that somehow always follows Emily around).

New city, same Emily (and a lot more pasta)

This season finds Emily leading Agence Grateau’s new Rome office, a big promotion that sounds impressive until one of her big ideas goes sideways and sends her professional and personal life spinning. A secret from the past also threatens one of her closest friendships, which means the drama quota remains exactly where it should be: high, fashionable and ridiculous.

The gang’s all back, too. Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) has ditched last season’s scruffy look and seems ready to re-enter Emily’s orbit. Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu’s Sylvie is still effortlessly chic and mildly terrifying, while Ashley Park’s Mindy remains a delightful tell-it-like-it-is beacon. And newcomer Minnie Driver shows up as Princess Jane, a royal friend of Sylvie’s who will almost certainly raise an immaculate eyebrow at Emily’s entire existence.

Filming took place across Paris, Rome and Venice (the Danieli Palace gets a cameo), and everything looks as glossy and escapist as ever. It’s pure fantasy — the kind where heartbreak happens against postcard-perfect backdrops and no one ever worries about rent.
