This nostalgic slasher movie sequel has crashed Netflix's top 10 just in time for Halloween
Sony's new 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' movie just came to Netflix

As we're a little over a week out from Halloween, it's no surprise to see a horror movie like the recent "I Know What You Did Last Summer" legacy sequel in Netflix's streaming charts. The 2025 slasher flick came to the streaming service on October 16, and within a week of its streaming debut, it has broken into the Netflix top 10 movies list.
Naturally, seeing the new release break into the charts could have you considering it a movie worthy of your precious streaming time... but I'd urge you to reconsider bumping it to the top of your watchlist.
That's because "I Know What You Did Last Summer" might be a slasher movie best reserved solely for franchise devotees or anyone who's exhausted most of their pre-Halloween viewing already.
If you're considering streaming the latest "I Know What You Did Last Summer" movie on Netflix, you can find a little more info about the release (and a round-up of critics' takes on it) below.
What is 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' about?
"I Know What You Did Last Summer" takes us back to Southport, North Carolina, and sees a hook-wielding killer terrorizing a whole new generation.
A year after five friends inadvertently caused a deadly car accident (and kept the secret to themselves), Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's slasher sees the group's shared past come back to haunt them: someone claims to know what they've done, and they're out for revenge. As a killer starts to stalk them, the group turns to two survivors of the 1997 Southport Massacre for help.
"I Know What You Did Last Summer" stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Billy Campbell, Gabriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Joshua Orpin, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

So, what's the problem with 'I Know What You Did Last Summer?'
The "problem" here is that this fourth "I Know What You Did Last Summer" movie failed to win the hearts of critics when it hit the big screen over the summer.
At the time of writing, it holds a 36% approval rating on the Tomatometer over on the review aggregate site, Rotten Tomatoes, with a critics' consensus which reads: "Faithfully harkening back to the original for better or worse, this "I Know What You Did Last Summer" reboot serves up plenty of nostalgia without finding a compelling hook of its own."
Vulture critic Bilge Ebiri called the new movie "torture" back in July, writing: "Not scary enough to thrill, funny enough to charm, or clever enough to convince, "I Know What You Did Last Summer isn't just forgettable. It's actively irritating."
Likewise, THR's Frank Scheck didn't find the movie's kills entertaining, and said Robinson and her co-screenwriter "haven't succeeded in breathing new life into a tired franchise that, creatively speaking, should have remained dead."
Entertainment Weekly's Jordan Hoffman did have more fun, though. Even if he called "I Know What You Did Last Summer" 'preposterously dumb,' Hoffman said "clever moments and a sensational performance from Madelyn Cline keep the movie (mostly) alive."
Clearly, the middling reviews weren't enough to deter moviegoers, as regular viewers rate it a little higher (66% on the Popcornmeter). While that score still doesn't exactly scream "must-see horror movie," it's at least evidence that viewers think there's some fun to be had here.
Even if it's probably best viewed as dismissible horror fodder, the new "I Know What You Did Last Summer" might still have something to offer if you're looking for a slasher flick fit for the spooky season, it may well be worth giving a chance.
