There's a unique satisfaction that comes from solving a puzzle, and no genre translates that feeling to the screen quite like a mystery. And there's no better way to take in a mystery than in series form. That's because with every episode, a great mystery series asks you to piece together puzzles that make you feel like a real detective.
Netflix is a treasure trove of mystery shows, from classic whodunits to mind-bending psychological cases that keep you theorizing until the very end. With such a huge library, however, there are some overlooked gems that are bound to slip through the cracks.
That’s why we’ve put on our detective hats to uncover three excellent but potentially overlooked mystery series currently available to stream on Netflix. It's time to dive in and start solving, gumshoe. There are mysteries afoot!
'Stay Close'
This series, based on a novel by master of suspense Harlan Coben, centers on three people whose seemingly normal lives are hiding some extremely dark secrets: Megan (Cush Jumbo), a working mother who once fled a dangerous past, Ray (Richard Armitage), a talented photographer stuck in a dead-end job; and Broome (James Nesbitt), a detective haunted by a missing person's cold case.
When a shocking new crime takes place, it changes the trio's lives and forces each of them to confront the checkered pasts they thought they had left behind forever. This eight-part miniseries is the perfect binge if you're looking for twists, turns, and compelling storytelling that'll have you guessing until the very end.
Released as an eight-part miniseries on Netflix in December 2021, "Stay Close" was praised as a quintessential binge-watch. Full of jaw-dropping cliffhangers and intricate character connections, the show is a slick and compelling puzzle box perfect for viewers who love a mystery where no one is truly who they seem.
