‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Is Officially Netflix’s Most-Watched Movie of All Time — and a Sequel Could Be on the Way

Forget "Red Notice": there's a new Netflix film at the top of the list of all-time most-watched Netflix movies (and we've got some fresh sequel news). Yesterday (August 26), the streaming service confirmed that "KPop Demon Hunters" had officially surpassed the 2021 heist movie as Netflix's most popular movie ever.
Netflix ranks its most-viewed movies by the total number of views received within the first 91 days of their premiere. "Red Notice" had occupied the top spot for years, having accrued a total of 230,900,000 views in that period. On Tudum, Netflix revealed that "KPop Demon Hunters" had now received over 236 million views since its release on June 20, 2025, comfortably surpassing the record set by Rawson Marshall Thurber's star-studded action-comedy.
The movie still has time to consolidate that lead, too: 91 days from release would be September 19, and more views are surely inbound. "KPop Demon Hunters" just topped the weekend box office with its limited sing-along theatrical release and has notched four songs in the Billboard Top 10 simultaneously, so it's bound to stay popular for weeks yet.
With all that said (and weeks of speculation about "KPop Demon Hunters 2"), it should come as no surprise that talks for a "KPop Demon Hunters" sequel are happening.
Per Variety, Sony and Netflix are "in early talks" for a sequel to "KPop Demon Hunters," which was the first film produced by Sony under its licensing deal with Netflix. Variety further notes that Pucks has reported Sony has entered negotiations with co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans to return for a sequel.
At present, we don't yet know what that potential sequel could look like, though Kang and Appelhans have previously teased that they had ideas for a follow-up feature.
"Because we had to pack so much into 85 minutes — it's a pretty big idea and a lot of pieces," said Appelhans during an interview with Shine On Media. "There are so many unanswered questions, in a good way, and so many avenues that could be their own story, so many possibilities."

And in a July interview with Variety, Kang hinted that the next "KPDH" movie could switch to telling us more about Huntrix's other members.
"This was Rumi's story, and we have backstories for Zoey and Mira — ones that we actually put in the movie, but it just kind of rejected it. It just wasn't the movie for those stories", Kang said.
