One of the best streaming services around, Hulu is home to a sprawling array of movies and TV shows, with an especially strong selection where miniseries are concerned. From historical dramas to sci-fi thrillers, the platform is packed with these immersive short stories that don't require a long runtime or a ton of episodes to grab and keep your attention — all they need is a hooking concept, a commanding cast and a plot that keeps you guessing.
With all of those options, though, it can be overwhelming to narrow things down to just one miniseries to watch next. Helpfully, we've curated a list of three worthy titles that you might have missed the first time around but that, once you do catch up, you'll want to devour in one sitting.
'Mrs. America'
Long before Rose Byrne became a Best Actress frontrunner for awards season 2026 — for her gutsy work as a struggling mother in "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You" — she played feminist icon Gloria Steinem in the nine-part political drama "Mrs. America," which details the unsuccessful political movement to pass the Equal Rights Amendment amid the culture wars of the 1970s.
That real-world tale is told through the eyes of the women of that era, portrayed by some big-name talent: Phyllis Schlafly (Cate Blanchett), Shirley Chisholm (Uzo Aduba), Jill Ruckelshaus (Elizabeth Banks), Bella Abzug (Margo Martindale), Betty Friedan (Tracey Ullman) and more. (The absolutely stacked cast also includes Sarah Paulson, Melanie Lynskey, Niecy Nash, John Slattery, James Marsden, Bobby Cannavale and Jake Lacy.)
Given all that screen talent — along with Emmy winner Dahvi Waller ("Mad Men") at its helm— it's not surprising that "Mrs. America" was a hit with critics, who praised the drama's "poise and style to spare" and its "superb ensemble led by another masterful performance from Cate Blanchett," per Rotten Tomatoes.

'Black Cake'
Based on the New York Times-bestselling book by Charmaine Wilkerson, "Black Cake" combines a tear-jerking family drama with a tropical whodunnit.
The eight-episode Hulu adaptation from Marissa Jo Cerar chronicles the tumultuous life and death of Eleanor Bennett (Chipo Chung), who leaves her two estranged children, Byron (Ashley Thomas) and Benny (Adrienne Warren,) a flash drive that holds previously untold stories of her journey from the West Indies to Southern California. Narrated by Eleanor, their mother's stories shock her children and challenge everything they thought they knew about their family’s origins.
With a strong 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, "Black Cake" was praised for its "cleverly plotted" script and "viscerally well-acted" performances, mixing up an "engrossing drama that can have its surprising twists and eat them, too."

'Devs'
Alex Garland had a busy 2025, what with the military drama "Warfare" and the long-awaited sequel "28 Years Later" both in theaters, but five years ago, he was occupied with another ambitious project: the eight-episode miniseries "Devs," which follows a young software engineer (played by Sonoya Mizuno) investigating the secret development division of her employer, a cutting-edge Silicon Valley tech company that she believes was involved in the murder of her boyfriend.
With a talented cast rounded out by Nick Offerman, Jin Ha, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny and Alison Pill, "Devs" was dubbed "a hauntingly beautiful meditation on humanity" by critics — the drama's "slow unfurling may test some viewers' patience, but fans of Alex Garland's singular talents will find much to chew on," per the critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes, where the series has a solid 82% approval rating.
