If you've been thinking about protecting your online privacy with one of the best VPNs, there's no better time to do so than on Black Friday.

There are countless Black Friday VPN deals to sift through and nearly every leading provider is offering some kind of discount.

I write about VPNs all day, every day and I've selected three of my favorite deals. These providers will suit most people and all come in at under $2.50 per month – you won't see a cheaper price any other time of year!

All three deals are for a two-year plan – which works out cheapest per month – and each comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee so you can try them risk free.

My three favorite Black Friday VPN deals

  1. Proton VPN – $2.49 per month (24-months, $60 up front)
Proton VPN one of the most private VPNs and has never been this cheap. There's no tiered plans so you'll unlock everything Proton VPN has to offer
  2. Surfshark One – $2.19 per month (27-months, $59 up front)
Surfshark is already one of the cheapest VPNs out there and Surfshark One is the provider's middle tier. You'll receive a great VPN as well as Avira-backed antivirus
  3. ExpressVPN – $2.44 per month (28-months, $68 up front)
Usually costing around $4 per month, ExpressVPN's surprise Black Friday deal sees it drop to its lowest ever price and outdo its major competitors.

1. Proton VPN – my top VPN deal this Black Friday

If privacy is your number one reason for buying a VPN, look no further than Proton VPN. It's open source, publishes regular no-logs audits, and campaigns for a free and open internet.

All its features – including dedicated ones to tackle internet censorship – are included in its plans. 1,000+ Mbps speeds make it one of the fastest VPNs we've tested and it's also great for streaming. There's 16,000+ servers worldwide and a decent level of customization for more experienced users.

Proton's end-to-end encrypted ecosystem is fit to challenge Google. Proton Unlimited includes Proton VPN, Mail, Drive, Pass, and Calendar and is $6.49 per month this Black Friday.

Proton VPN's apps are by no means complicated, but its layout isn't quite as beginner-friendly as Surfshark or ExpressVPN. So if you're after complete simplicity, Proton VPN may not be for you.

But if you want a powerful blend of performance and privacy, Proton VPN is an ideal choice.

2. Surfshark One – VPN & antivirus protection

We rate Surfshark as the best cheap VPN on the market. Despite its price, Surfshark packs a punch. It's lightning fast and can protect an unlimited number of devices on one plan. You'll get unique features like Multi IP and Alternative ID, as well as a strong kill switch and excellent streaming unblocking capabilities.

Surfshark One is the second of three tiers of plan and adds Avira-backed antivirus protection to your VPN plan for just $0.20 per month more than Surfshark Starter. The antivirus sits nicely within your VPN app and offers real-time protection as well as device scanning.

Surfshark's speeds can suffer on longer connections and it's arguably the least customizable VPN on this list. But if you're after a cheap cybersecurity package and rock-solid VPN, a Surfshark One could be for you.

3. ExpressVPN – surprise deal to undercut its rivals

ExpressVPN doesn't run sales very often – if ever – and the fact it even dropped a Black Friday discount was a surprise. What was even more surprising was its price.

The provider recently changed to a tiered structure, with its cheapest plan costing $3.49 per month. Prior to this, you couldn't get ExpressVPN for under $4.99 per month. So this is an incredible deal.

ExpressVPN is fast and very secure – it was the first major VPN to offer post-quantum encryption across the board. Ease-of-use is one of ExpressVPN's major selling points. It boasts a giant on/off button, and its apps look the same across each device. If you're a beginner, ExpressVPN is your best bet.

We saw the fastest speeds on the Windows-exclusive Lightway Turbo. Speeds for other protocols weren't slow, but if you're on super-fast Wi-Fi and not a Windows user, faster VPNs like Proton VPN or NordVPN may be better. We also saw some hiccups when it came to streaming unblocking, notably with Amazon Prime Video.

However, for simplicity and security, it's hard to beat ExpressVPN at this price.
