Apple may have accidentally leaked the name of its much rumored cheap MacBook. Earlier today, a European Union regulatory document featured the nom de plume "MacBook Neo" (Model A3404) popped up on the Apple website.
Apple has since removed the MacBook Neo link, but not before it was spotted by MacRumors. The link to the document was under a list of MacBooks being released in 2026 included M5 MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs.
This morning the company revealed the Mac Studio Display and Studio Display XDR. New MacBook Pros with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips were also announced with price bumps.
Apple has one more day to announce the "Neo," and Wednesday (March 4) is a showcase day where press will get hands on time with new devices.
What we know about the cheap MacBook
The Macbook Neo is rumored to feature either an A18 Pro or A19 Pro iPhone chipset, which, as we've argued, are powerful enough to run a laptop.
Outside of the chips, it should have 12.9-inch display. It's been rumored that it will come in colorful options like yellow, green, blue, and maybe pink.
According to MacRumors, the Apple-leaked documents also revealed some potential features we hadn't seen in previous rumors. that includes two USB-C ports and MagSafe charging.
The Neo is also supposed to have WiFi 7, but not Apple's custom N1 chipset. Instead, it could have a MediaTek chip for WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Neo would come in below the MacBook Air in Apple's laptop lineup with current pricing rumors suggesting it could cost between $599 and $799. The newly announced iPhone 17e and iPad Air both start at $599.
