Don't splurge on the brand new Sony A7R VI just yet — I'd get its awesome predecessor for $900 off right now
It's still one of the most powerful cameras today
Earlier this week, Sony revealed the latest addition to its extensive lineup of mirrorless cameras: the Sony A7R VI. It succeeds the four-year-old Sony A7R V, and on paper, it sounds like a dream. It packs a newly designed 66.8MP sensor, making it the highest resolution full-frame camera today. 30fps RAW burst, a next-gen processor, Auto subject detection, a high-res EVF and a 4-axis monitor — it's got it all.
But that doesn't mean the A7R V is going anywhere (for now). The A7R V is still one of the best mirrorless cameras you can buy today, and in light of its successor now being a reality, it's cheaper than ever. That's right, the A7R V body is currently $900 off at Adorama, making it a little more affordable at $3,298 (rather than its retail price of $4,198).
The Sony A7R V is an epic full frame hybrid with enough resolution to retire on. Stills are, as you can imagine, beautiful, combined with Sony’s vaunted AF and stabilization. And there’s some chunky video specs, such as 8K/30fps, to boot.
When we reviewed the A7R V, we awarded it a 4.5-star rating along with the coveted Editor's Choice Award — and for good reason, too. This camera's got everything you need to create stellar content, from high-res stills to cinematic videos. The A7R V packs a 61MP sensor that enables you to make extreme crops, and powerful autofocus as well as strong high dynamic range performance make it a winner.

The A7R V features up to 8-stops of in-body image stabilization (IBIS) which enables you to shoot at slow shutter speeds, making low-light photography a walk in the park. The colors it captures are nothing short of beautiful, and if you want a powerful hybrid camera, it can shoot 8K/30fps video too.
What makes the A7R V a sheer delight to use is its 0.64-inch Quad-XGA OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) with a resolution of 9.44M dots. That means it's bright, extremely sharp, and great for extensive focus checking of those highly detailed 61MP images. Ergonomics are peerless, thanks to the protruding sculpted grip and a body that's heavy enough that it feels sturdy but not too heavy that it feels unwieldy.
I'm very excited to get my hands on the new Sony A7R VI because it's got some drool-worthy specs — but so does the older A7R V. I personally don't believe everyone needs to get the latest camera as old cameras still take stunning photos, and the A7R V is one of them. The A7R V body is $900 off at Adorama right now which make it a steal, and as it's a limited time offer, I'd grab this deal with both hands and run.
