Ah, summer. Winter has long gone and with it, the snow has melted away. The cherry blossoms and magnolia trees are blossoming everywhere, and as the clocks change in the States and in Europe, it signals one thing: summer will soon be here. It's time for barbecues in the backyard and staying out late as it's brighter for longer. It's also a great time for photography, so it's time to dust off your camera.
You know what else is perfectly suited to summer? Drones and aerial photography. As someone who tests all the best drones, I know for a fact that it can be very difficult to capture pleasing footage in the winter when everything appears dry and damp — especially if you live in the U.K. like I do.
If you're planning on taking to the skies this summer, boy have I got some good recommendations for you! As part of the Amazon Big Spring Sale, many of my favorite drones have been discounted, such as the DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo which is a whopping $500 off at Amazon, and the Potensic Atom 2 bundle which is 21% off at Amazon.
Two of my top-rated drones, the DJI Neo 2 and the DJI Air 3S, aren't discounted but they're worth paying full price for — I gave both of them 4.5-star ratings. So, if you're looking to capture beautiful, sun-kissed landscapes this summer, here are the drones that are up to the challenge.

I review the best cameras and best drones here at Tom's Guide. I've adored photography for as long as I can remember, and when I'm not working, I love taking my Fujifilm X-T50 on a walk and capturing the sights. My favorite subjects to photograph are animals, birds, and my partner. You can follow my work on Instagram.

My top-rated drones for the summer
The DJI Mini 5 Pro sets a new standard for safety and imaging quality in mini drones. With omnidirectional obstacle avoidance and forward-facing LiDAR, the drone is capable of returning home even without GPS. It introduces a few notable upgrades as compared to its predecessor: a 1-inch sensor for improved low-light performance, 225° gimbal rotation, all while retaining a compact form factor.

The DJI Mini 4K features some pro specs. Not only can you capture 4K/30fps footage, but you also get access to QuickShots and panoramas with a 31-minute flight time. The drone also features a smart return to home and stable hovering, making it the ideal drone for beginners and drone enthusiasts.

The DJI Flip is a solid mid-range drone, perfect for those looking to upgrade from older DJI models. It captures detailed 48MP stills in all lighting conditions, and records gorgeous 4K/60fps footage. It’s great for content creators as it features many shooting modes, plus it’s built really well and sports a slick design.

The DJI Mavic 4 Pro is the best consumer drone money can buy right now, period. It improves on its predecessor by introducing 6K/60fps video, 100MP stills powered by a Hasselblad camera, and a brand new RC Pro 2 controller that makes flying a breeze. With a long flight time and 5-star performance across the board, it’s the ideal drone for commercial and personal use.

The DJI Neo 2 is the best budget drone on the market right now, upstaging its predecessor in every way and doing so at (still) a low price point. Featuring 4K/60fps video, omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, bigger internal storage, Gesture Control, and more, it makes an already formidable drone a must-have for all pilots.

The DJI Air 3S is an outstanding drone with a dual-camera system that lets aerial videographers and travel photographers capture wide-angle and medium telephoto shots. With a large 1-inch sensor, next-gen obstacle avoidance, 42GB internal storage, and superb low-light performance, this is the best 4K/60fps drone money can buy right now.

The Potensic Atom 2 is a fantastic drone for budget-conscious pilots. It records smooth 4K/30fps video and captures detailed 48MP stills. It features advanced and accurate AI subject tracking, and comes with a new, easy to use controller and app — it’s also lightweight yet sturdy. This drone gives DJI a serious run for its money.
