Retro Space Invaders Toaster Leaves an Imprint

For those who love eating aliens

Bored with your plain morning toast? Designer Chris Naylor has the solution for you. His Invader Toaster concept makes its mark on risen yeast.

As a design, the Invader Toaster is a pretty one-dimensional kitchen appliance. Shaped like one of those evil aliens you have to fight off in the classic Space Invaders, the toaster has a smaller version of itself embedded into the hot plate. The end result? Bread embellished with the silhouette of some classic video gaming iconography.

Seriously though, would you buy Invader Toaster if it ever hit the market? Normal toasters can do more, in a smaller space, and probably for less energy. This concept toaster is a bit too bulky just for the sake of toasting a single slice of bread. Sooner or later, you'd get sick and tired of seeing that alien as you apply jam.

Other than as a gift for avid 80s gamers who want to take a trip down nostalgia lane, Invader Toaster should remain a concept. Unless of course Mr. Naylor is open to making the toaster imprint interchangeable, allowing users to cook different designs onto their bread. Maybe plates of other classic gaming icons (like Mario, the dude from Flashback, and 2D Duke Nukem) would be more appealing to future customers?
