Web, Android, iOS (Free or $24/year)
NewsBlur is an RSS aggregator whose userbase has exploded since the announcement of Google Reader's imminent retirement. Free users can follow up to 12 sites, share content publicly through a "blurblog," and more, while premium users gain unlimited site subscription, more privacy options for their blurblog, a Text view for stories, and more frequent feed updates. The web app features a clean view with stories displayed in Feed, Story, or Original view, with the stripped down Text view available to premium users. Newsblur is a fairly small operation, and has recently been swamped with new users, resulting in a bit of a slowdown. The iOS app seems solid enough, while the Android app is currently notoriously unstable.
Verdict: A comfortable reader with good looking view modes, though its service and usage terms are a bit in flux at the moment. The limits on free users will turn off heavy feed subscribers, but the reader itself is quite good and worth paying for. Give NewsBlur a try in a week or so once stability is restored, and see if it's worth it.
