I’ve tested the Garmin Forerunner 165 vs Garmin Forerunner 170 and the older model is much better value thanks to this epic Prime Day deal

After the recent launch of the Garmin Forerunner 170 and Garmin Forerunner 70 watches, I did expect to see the Garmin Forerunner 165 pop up in the Prime Day sales.

However, I didn't anticipate the price dropping to $129, which is by far the cheapest the Forerunner 165 has ever been — it’s usually only discounted to $199 in sales.

I feared that deal might even be a mistake, and actually Amazon did briefly put the price back up to $199 now, but fortunately it's back to $129 now and Walmart also has the Garmin Forerunner 165 for $129.

That deal is on the standard model of the watch, and only in black. The white version is $199, while the Forerunner 165 Music is $249, all normal prices for the watch, so the black Forerunner 165 being $129 is an outlier and a deal worth jumping on if you need a running watch.

The Forerunner 165 is the perfect affordable option for runners and considerably cheaper than the new Garmin Forerunner 170 thanks to this deal, which is on the standard model of the watch. This is by far the cheapest the Forerunner 165 has ever been, with discounts usually only dropping the watch to $199.

While the Forerunner 165 is an older watch, I’ve tested it and its successors, the Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170, extensively, and the 165 still stands up as an excellent option for runners in particular.

It’s a lightweight, attractive watch with an AMOLED display that offers equally accurate GPS and heart rate tracking to the newer Forerunner 170, and it also has NFC payments even if it lacks the music storage available on the Forerunner 165 Music.

I did a full comparison of the Garmin Forerunner 165 vs Garmin Forerunner 170 recently and the main upgrades you get with the watch are more extensive training analysis and an improved user interface.

The new watch is a better watch, but it’s not a mind-blowing upgrade, so the fact you can get the Forerunner 165 for less than half the price of the non-music Forerunner 170 thanks to this deal means it’s definitely better value in my eyes.
