These two sides have met several times in the Champions League before, in 2009 and 2012. They've each won one match, with the other two ending in a draw.

Up until the weekend, Chelsea had been imperious in the league. However, their unbeaten run came to an end against fellow Premier League title contenders Manchester City. An overly defensive outlook at the beginning of the match cost Thomas Tuchel’s men, and they'll be determined not to repeat the mistake today.

Chelsea are again without right back Reece James, who had to be taken off injured in the match against City. Manager Tuchel said James was in “a lot of pain” following the incident with Jack Grealish. Fellow England star Mason Mount is also out, following a knock picked up in the Carabao Cup tie against Aston Villa.

After failing to win Serie A for the first time in a decade last season, a now Ronaldo-less Juventus continue to endure a difficult time in their domestic league. They've won only two of their matches so far and sit in mid-table behind city rivals Torino, who they face this coming weekend.

In a huge blow to Juve, Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata have been ruled out of both the clash with Chelsea and the Turin derby. Spanish forward Morata would have been particularly keen to make an impact after undergoing such a torrid time as a Chelsea player.

The battle between Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku and Juve’s highly experienced centre back Leonardo Bonnucci will be fascinating to watch — although he won't have and Giorgio Chiellini alongside him, as he's on the bench.

Here's how they line up:

Chelsea: Mendy, Christensen, Silva, Rudiger, Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kovacic, Alonso, Ziyech, Havertz, Lukaku.

Juventus: Szczesny, Danilo, Bonucci, De Ligt, Sandro, Cuadrado, Bentancur, Locatelli, Rabiot, Bernardeschi, Chiesa.

While both teams are likely to go through to the Round of 16, the result here will play a big role in determining who qualifies top of the group, which can itself be crucial in determining a better path through the competition. We will show you how to watch it below.
