'Weapons' just got a confirmed HBO Max streaming date — here's when you can watch it
It’s been three years since “Barbarian” had horror fans double-checking their basements, and now writer-director Zach Cregger is back with another nightmare to haunt your sleep.
“Weapons” has already cemented itself as one of 2025’s most talked-about horror releases. Starring Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, and Alden Ehrenreich, the movie opens with the baffling disappearance of 17 children, setting off a chain of events that twists into a nerve-shredding riddle between reality and delusion.
Having seen “Weapons” myself, I can confidently say it’s one of the best movies of the year, period. The performances, cinematography, dark humor, unsettling score, and absolutely wild ending make it a truly unforgettable horror flick. Meanwhile, social media is flooded with fan theories about its meaning and whether Cregger has secretly built himself a connected horror universe.
If you’ve been holding off on seeing it in theaters, or you’re itching to relive the terror from the safety of your own couch, you’re probably wondering when “Weapons” will make its streaming debut. Thankfully the studio has now confirmed a HBO Max release date.
Here’s what you need to know about “Weapons” and when you'll be able to watch it at home.
When will ‘Weapons’ be available to stream?
“Weapons” hit the big screen on August 8, 2025, and has since got a confirmed digital streaming release of Tuesday, September 9, 2025. The horror-thriller is available for rent or purchase on services like Amazon and Apple right now.
I first predicted it would land on streaming on September 16, which is a week later. This is based on how well the movie was initially received. In fact, “Weapons” has grossed over $240 million worldwide so far.

When will ‘Weapons’ come to HBO Max?
It has now been confirmed that the “Weapons” will drop on HBO Max on October 24, 2025. This move allows the studio to give the movie a little more time to run on digital rental platforms before making it available for streaming.
The timing is perfect for horror fans, landing just ahead of Halloween and maximizing the seasonal appeal of the genre. While strong box office or digital sales could have influenced a longer premium window, fans can now mark their calendars for its HBO Max debut on October 24.
