5 top new shows I'd stream this week on Netflix, Apple TV and more (Oct. 6-12)
New TV this week includes 'Matlock' and 'The Last Frontier'

As October rolls in with crisp air and pumpkin-scented evenings, new TV shows are arriving at a whirlwind pace on Netflix, Apple TV Plus and other streaming services, as well as cable and broadcast channels.
Fashion fans can dive into Victoria Beckham, exploring the style icon’s life with sharp insight and behind-the-scenes access. For thriller lovers, "The Last Frontier" tests a U.S. marshal's limits when a plane full of prisoners crashes. And the spinoff "9-1-1: Nashville" promises heart-pounding rescues by first responders. Here's our guide on the top new TV shows to check out this week.
‘Boots’ (Netflix)
This comedy, inspired by Greg Cope White’s memoir “The Pink Marine,” takes the classic coming-of-age story and drops it into a 1990s boot camp where the training is merciless, camaraderie is complicated and being gay in uniform is still against the rules.
Miles Heizer plays Cameron, a closeted misfit stumbling through drills and self-discovery. His best friend, Ray (Liam Oh), is carrying the weight of his father’s legacy. Together, they must navigate drill sergeants, secrets and landmines both literal and emotional,
Episodes 1-8 premiere Thursday, Oct. 9 at 3 a.m. ET on Netflix
‘Victoria Beckham’ (Netflix)
Netflix is giving Victoria Beckham her own close-up. A new three-part docuseries, directed by Nadia Hallgren (“Becoming”) and from the team behind “Beckham,” follows her from Posh Spice to Paris Fashion Week, tracing the ambition and reinvention that have kept her at the center of pop culture for nearly three decades.
It’s part Spice Girls nostalgia trip, part fashion-world pressure cooker, with Anna Wintour, Tom Ford and husband David Beckham weighing in along the way. The result is a rare look at a woman who’s built an empire with razor-sharp control.

Episodes 1-3 premiere Thursday, Oct. 9 at 3 a.m. ET on Netflix
‘9-1-1: Nashville’ (ABC)

Fire, family and a little country flair — the hit first responders franchise is heading down South to Nashville. Chris O’Donnell leads as Captain Don Hart, a veteran firefighter whose tight-knit crew at Station 113 faces harrowing rescues and even trickier personal entanglements.
Enter Blue (Hunter McVey), a wannabe influencer-turned-hero who also happens to be Don’s secret son, blindsiding both dad and firefighter son Ryan (Michael Provost). With LeAnn Rimes, Jessica Capshaw and Kimberly Williams-Paisley adding Southern star power, expect high-octane emergencies colliding with family melodrama. In Music City, every siren hits a high note.
Episode 1 premieres Thursday, Oct. 9 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC (via Sling, Fubo or YouTube TV) and next day on Hulu
‘The Last Frontier’ (Apple TV Plus)
“Con Air” meets “The Fugitive” in this icy thriller series. Frank Remnick (Jason Clarke) is the lone U.S. Marshal in a sleepy Alaskan town when a prison transport plane crashes, spilling dozens of dangerous inmates into the wilderness.
As Frank races to track them down, he begins to suspect the crash wasn’t an accident and that the CIA might be hiding more than they admit. With kidnapped loved ones, a villain named Padlock, and frozen standoffs that leave no room for mistakes, this is a ‘90s-style action ride that’s rugged, tense and full of twists and turns.
Episodes 1-2 premiere Friday, Oct. 10 at 12 a.m. ET on Apple TV Plus
‘Matlock’ season 2 (CBS)
Matty Matlock is back on the case for a second season. Kathy Bates returns as the cunning lawyer who always has a trick up her sleeve, but this time the drama hits closer to home: A man claims to be her grandson’s dad.
While Matty juggles that revelation, the team races to crack an arson case, and Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) tiptoes around Julian’s (Jason Ritter) Wellbrexa secrets. Courtroom battles, family drama and cunning tactics collide in the smartest, sassiest legal drama on TV.
Episode 1 premieres Sunday, Oct. 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS (via Fubo or YouTube TV) or next day on Paramount Plus
