One of the most intense shark thrillers in years, "The Shallows" zeroes in on one woman and her harrowing fight to survive against impossible odds. Blake Lively stars as Nancy Adams, a medical student who's struggling with an identity crisis after her mother's passing. She heads to a secluded beach in Mexico for some long-needed R&R, but just as she's about to pack it in for the day, she stumbles upon the corpse of a whale that a shark has clearly been snacking on — and the 23-foot predator soon sets its sights on her. Bitten and bleeding, she's forced to use her wits and every last ounce of her strength to fend the shark off and figure out a way to get back to shore.

"Super 8" follows a group of young friends—led by Joe Lamb (Joel Courtney)—who set out to make a low-budget zombie movie, but while they're filming, they witness a devastating train crash. That's only the beginning of their troubles, it turns out. As strange incidents and unexplained disappearances begin happening around their small town, the kids start digging into what really happened, and eventually discover that the train was transporting a mysterious and powerful alien that has escaped and is wreaking havoc.

One of the most underrated Ryan Gosling movies of all time just landed on Prime Video this month. In "The Place Beyond the Pines," the "Barbie" star reunites with “Blue Valentine” director Derek Cianfrance for an emotional crime drama set spanning 15 years. Gosling plays Luke Glanton, a brooding motorcycle stuntman with a traveling carnival. When he reconnects with a former lover (Eva Mendes), he discovers he has a child he never knew about. Determined to support his son and win back the life he feels he’s lost, Luke decides to start robbing banks to provide for his family, but the escalating crimes eventually bring him into conflict with an ambitious police officer, Avery Cross (Bradley Cooper).
