Best Buy is Giving Away Free Nexus S Units All Day

- By - Source : Best Buy PR (via Engadget)

If ever there was a time to upgrade to the Nexus S, this is it.

If you've been thinking about forking over the cash for a Nexus S but aren't sure if you can really afford to drop a hundred dollars on the device, now's your chance. For one day only, Best Buy locations are giving away free Nexus S phones to those willing to sign a two year contract. The offer started at midnight, August 3, and goes through to midnight tonight. Sure, it's not as sweet a deal as a free off-contract Nexus S, but it's nothing to turn your nose up at, either.

Best Buy said in a release that all three versions of the phone are included in the deal (AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile) and that customers can avail of the offer as an upgrade or as a new phone. If you can't get to a Best Buy store in time, you can always hit up bestbuy.com/mobile.

The Nexus S is a Samsung-built Google phone with a 4-inch super AMOLED display, a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 512MB of RAM, dual cameras (5-megapixel in the back and a smaller VGA camera up front), WiFi, microUSB, NFC, and 16GB of internal storage.

even if it was free with no 2 year contract, the catch would be you'll have to go inside a Best Buy!

What a bunch of retards. "It's not free, you need a contract wah wah wah"

Yea, they are going to give away a $600 phone for free because they like you. Yes, cell phone plans can be expensive, especially with internet packages. Do you remember when you had to pay a few hundred for the coolest phone PLUS a contract?

You're right... Free technically would mean no charge for the phone and no monthly fee. If you actually thought that when you saw the title, deal with it.

*sigh....

Jane, thanks for the heads up, I just got the phone. I pity the fools that didn't understand the news piece.

Free phone...subject to local sales tax (tax calculated based on the MSRP of $599.99), plus $18 upgrade fee for existing customer, offer includes a mandatory data plan of $30/month, void where prohibited.

Did I miss anything?

I bet early termination of the contract will still be less than the cost of the phone.

The one good thing in Canada, we don't need to wait for this kind of deal, it's always going on. Sign a contract for 2-3 years with any company and you have a choice of smart phones to get for free. Got myself the Blackberry Curve with a great plan, only 35$ a month! Compared to a normal bill of 60, or even 70$ (my previous dumb phone plan).

Well, since I was upgrade eligible, I picked up one of these for $0, no sales tax, said "no thank you" to the accessories & protection plan (at $9.99 a month!!!), kept my $15/mo data plan, and left for a grand total of $0. Yes, I may have an extra $18 on my carrier bill... seems worth it compared to the $100-$200 cost of anything competitive like an Atrix or Infuse.

Working out nice for me so far, and I can give my old HTC Aria to the kids as a MP3/game device. Trolls, you can go back to your cave now.

Interesting post, thank you for putting it up! Looks like I may have missed the boat on this one, since i have an iPhone. Droids are pretty cool though.. Best Buy is a great company, but like many nationwide businesses it can have some weak spots. I was surfing the internet and I found this site where people can vent about poor customer service or products they received... it can get really funny. I would recommend you to check it out here.
