PICTURED: The Google Phone Unboxed
Packaging, casing and just a smidgen of UI.
Aside from the few pictures of Google's Nexus One that appeared on Twitter a couple of weeks back, there has been little else available to those eager to know more. Until today that is.
While there are still no official specs to speak of and Google has yet to announce a launch date, pictures of the packaging and a subsequent unboxing appeared on Twitter.

hmmm.... hold out for this or switch to the droid?
hopefully these new phones wont be as disappointing as the LG VU.
nice job on not fixing/remo\/ing the broken/trashy ad's toms!
This doesn't look like it's anything special, and if it is running a normal version of Android then it is really just another Android phone on the market. Still good to see Android growing though, it is the best phone platform available.
hmmm.... hold out for this or switch to the droid?
Hold out for this one. Word is they'll be selling them through retailers but without a contract and for a decent price, too. I'm not saying I'm 100% sure it's true, just that it's worth waiting to find out!

If you're willing to go with GSM I'd wait for this. It will probably be a while before CDMA support comes to this phone since US is the only one that uses CDMA. If you like CDMA and don't need a slide out keyboard I would HTC Eris. Which appears to be a slightly downgraded version of this phone. Of course I am biased since I own the Eris, and love it and am patiently waiting for the Update to speed up the phone.
Google track, retain, and sell the users data, private informations, etc... Google needs to give it out for free.
Anyone agree with me?
This phones looks like it's being made by HTC, look at the battery...
wow. I thought google phones had been out for over a year now. just shows what I haven't been into. imo a phone is a phone, I would be happy with just a regular ericsson. don't need to be chained to the internet everywhere I go. should have some fresh air some times.

That's because it is!

HTC makes the best phones. period.

They should give you a free phone because of the data you let them datamine by using their free services? lol
Your data is only worth anything in context of a large userbase datapool which they use to correlate trends and tendencies for targeted ads. You wouldn't even have the data in the first place if you hadn't used google for free.
Think about it; what could you have bought with your data if you weren't letting goggle earn money from it?
No. What you should be given for free is the choice to opt out of the data collection program for privacy reasons. The only way to get that atm is to not use google.
I almost bought the Droid the day the news about this phone came out. If the specs are correct I would wait for the Nexus One. Biggest reason for me is the OLED screen and a rumored 1 gig processor.

I think you're right (the supposed OLED is what sold me.) Let the wait begin.
Needs a keyboard
I don't know about the "best" phones ever. My Touch Pro 2 I can't stand. It's flakey, the resistive touch screen was a stupid way to go in a capacitive world. Right off the bat the memory is 3/4 gone (unless you turn off Opera from running in the background). I should have gotten an Eris, or waiting for the BB Storm 2.
oh well
I understand they are going to sell this phone directly from retailers, but who will be providing service to this phone? AT&T, Verizon, Cellular South, etc... Just curious if anyone has any idea

If ts gets contracted through a wireless provider then its going to be AT&T or T-mobile, more likely T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint need to drop the CDMA and go with GSM.
I really wanted to know what the data-dot said. Who blurred it?
wow! so it comes in a box! and has a screen!! how informative!
oh well, i suppose we now know it has a removable battery, so its already beating the iphone...
If almost every android phone is made by HTC, and the OS made by Google, how is this more a "Google Phone" than the others again?
man all smart phones are starting to all look the same. this phone and the palm pre looks just like my old HTC touch dual
I'll just keep my wallet closed till I see specs
looks like a rebranded HTC phone
nvrm it is an HTC, lol. i decided to look at the pics after i posted the comment, lol
The reason for this phone is so that google can ensure that, like the iPhone, future revisions of Android are available to existing handset users. Existing Android phones may or may not get updated depending on the whim of the handset manufacturer, who would much rather sell you a new handset. This was what largely killed Windows Mobile. Google doesn't want to make that mistake. With WinMo,you had to buy a new handset to get a newer version, in most cases. Although HTC are making this phone for google, google will ensure that it tracks newer versions of Android just like Apple makes latest firmware available to all iPhone versions. This will also put some pressure on other handset vendors to update older handsets, hopefully, as new versions of Android come out. At present there's a significant population of handsets still on 1.5 and 1.6 with no clear commitment from the handset vendors as to whether these will be upgradeable to 2.0/2.1, let alone beyond that point.
Just what we need - another iPhone clone

LOL, life is not that simple. Go to google.com, type in {kravmaga "tomshardware"}. You will see a list of what you had posted on Tomshardware.com. Now, did you use google to posted these messages? Do you see ads related to your posting? It's not just a block of data for targeting ADS, it contains more than your tom's hardware user informations.
Google needs to give you a free DROID Phone since you didn't use free google serivce to post these messages.
