While Adidas has released some of the highest stack carbon plate running shoes of any brand, with models like the Prime X offering 50mm of foam at the heel, its training shoes have been relatively conservative in the amount of cushioning on offer.
This is not the case anymore, with the new Adidas Hyperboost Edge being a true max-stack option for your daily training runs. It stands 45mm tall at the heel and 39mm at the forefoot, and it’s packed with the latest tech Adidas has to offer.
That includes an all-new midsole foam that promises more energy return than past Adidas sneakers like the Supernova Rise 2.
The Hyperboost Edge is billed as Adidas’ first non-plated super-trainer, which puts it up against some of the best running shoes available, like the Asics Megablast and Saucony Endorphin Azura.
An energetic new midsole foam
Key to the performance of the Hyperboost Edge is its new midsole foam, which is called Hyperboost Pro and promises an energetic and enjoyable ride for all kinds of training runs.
It’s also a lightweight material, since the Hyperboost Edge weighs just under 9oz in a US size 8.5 despite its towering stack height.
While it’s not the lightest max-stack shoe out there — both the Asics Megablast and Asics Superblast 3 are lighter — it’s impressive that such a cushioned shoe isn’t heavier.

“We wanted to bring something truly transformative to runners,” says Patrick Nava, GM of Adidas Running. “Hyperboost Edge is where the Power of Three comes to life — cushioning, energy, and lightness combined seamlessly in one shoe.”
A lightweight upper and outsole
Adidas extended its intent to make the Hyperboost Edge an innovative and lightweight shoe to both its upper and outsole.
The minimal PRIMEWEAVE upper is made from a soft woven material and provides comfort and lockdown through cushioned heel pads.
On the bottom of the shoe a LIGHTTRAXION outsole is built to deliver grip without adding a lot of bulk to the shoe.
I’ve used Adidas sneakers with LIGHTTRAXION outsoles in the past and found it pretty good on grip, if not as impressive as the Continental rubber the brand sometimes uses on its shoes.
The Adidas Hyperboost Edge launches 17 March
You won’t have to wait long to get your hands on the Adidas Hyperboost Edge, which goes on sale on 17 March in a red and white launch colorway. Further colors will follow on 1 May.
The new shoe will set you back $200, making it the priciest Adidas training shoe yet, though that price is in line with other super-trainers like the Asics Megablast.
I'll hopefully get my hands on the Hyperboost Edge soon to test for our review, so stay tuned to see if it's a true contender to the super-trainer crown.
